Psalms 90:5-7 - Compare All Versions

Psalms 90:5-7 NIV (New International Version)

Yet you sweep people away in the sleep of death— they are like the new grass of the morning: In the morning it springs up new, but by evening it is dry and withered. We are consumed by your anger and terrified by your indignation.

Psalms 90:5-7 ESV (English Standard Version 2025)

You sweep them away as with a flood; they are like a dream, like grass that is renewed in the morning: in the morning it flourishes and is renewed; in the evening it fades and withers. For we are brought to an end by your anger; by your wrath we are dismayed.

Psalms 90:5-7 NLT (New Living Translation)

You sweep people away like dreams that disappear. They are like grass that springs up in the morning. In the morning it blooms and flourishes, but by evening it is dry and withered. We wither beneath your anger; we are overwhelmed by your fury.

Psalms 90:5-7 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

You end their lives;  they sleep.  They are like grass that grows in the morning — in the morning it sprouts and grows; by evening it withers and dries up.  For we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath.

Psalms 90:5-7 KJV (King James Version)

Thou carriest them away as with a flood; they are as a sleep: In the morning they are like grass which groweth up. In the morning it flourisheth, and groweth up; In the evening it is cut down, and withereth. For we are consumed by thine anger, And by thy wrath are we troubled.

Psalms 90:5-7 NKJV (New King James Version)

You carry them away like a flood; They are like a sleep. In the morning they are like grass which grows up: In the morning it flourishes and grows up; In the evening it is cut down and withers. For we have been consumed by Your anger, And by Your wrath we are terrified.

Psalms 90:3-11 MSG (The Message)

So don’t return us to mud, saying, “Back to where you came from!” Patience! You’ve got all the time in the world—whether a thousand years or a day, it’s all the same to you. Are we no more to you than a wispy dream, no more than a blade of grass That springs up gloriously with the rising sun and is cut down without a second thought? Your anger is far and away too much for us; we’re at the end of our rope. You keep track of all our sins; every misdeed since we were children is entered in your books. All we can remember is that frown on your face. Is that all we’re ever going to get? We live for seventy years or so (with luck we might make it to eighty), And what do we have to show for it? Trouble. Toil and trouble and a marker in the graveyard. Who can make sense of such rage, such anger against the very ones who fear you?

Psalms 90:5-7 NASB2020 (New American Standard Bible - NASB)

You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep; In the morning they are like grass that sprouts anew. In the morning it flourishes and sprouts anew; Toward evening it wilts and withers away. ¶For we have been consumed by Your anger, And we have been terrified by Your wrath.

Psalms 90:5-7 AMP (Amplified Bible)

You have swept them away like a flood, they fall asleep [forgotten as soon as they are gone]; In the morning they are like grass which grows anew— In the morning it flourishes and springs up; In the evening it wilts and withers away. ¶For we have been consumed by Your anger And by Your wrath we have been terrified.

Psalms 90:5-7 NET (New English Translation)

You bring their lives to an end and they “fall asleep.” In the morning they are like the grass that sprouts up; in the morning it glistens and sprouts up; at evening time it withers and dries up. Yes, we are consumed by your anger; we are terrified by your wrath.
