Psalms 53:2-4
Psalms 53:1-4 The Message (MSG)
Bilious and bloated, they gas, “God is gone.” It’s poison gas— they foul themselves, they poison Rivers and skies; thistles are their cash crop. God sticks his head out of heaven. He looks around. He’s looking for someone not stupid— one man, even, God-expectant, just one God-ready woman. He comes up empty. A string of zeros. Useless, unshepherded Sheep, taking turns pretending to be Shepherd. The ninety and nine follow the one. Don’t they know anything, all these predators? Don’t they know they can’t get away with this, Treating people like a fast-food meal over which they’re too busy to pray?
Psalms 53:2-4 King James Version (KJV)
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, that did seek God. Every one of them is gone back: they are altogether become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge? Who eat up my people as they eat bread: They have not called upon God.
Psalms 53:2-4 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
God has looked down from heaven upon the sons of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God. Every one of them has turned aside; together they have become corrupt; There is no one who does good, not even one. Have the workers of wickedness no knowledge, Who eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God?
Psalms 53:2-4 New Century Version (NCV)
God looked down from heaven on all people to see if anyone was wise, if anyone was looking to God for help. But all have turned away. Together, everyone has become evil; none of them does anything good. Not a single person. Don’t the wicked understand? They destroy my people as if they were eating bread. They do not ask God for help.
Psalms 53:2-4 American Standard Version (ASV)
God looked down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there were any that did understand, That did seek after God. Every one of them is gone back; they are together become filthy; There is none that doeth good, no, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And call not upon God?
Psalms 53:2-4 New International Version (NIV)
God looks down from heaven on all mankind to see if there are any who understand, any who seek God. Everyone has turned away, all have become corrupt; there is no one who does good, not even one. Do all these evildoers know nothing?
Psalms 53:2-4 New King James Version (NKJV)
God looks down from heaven upon the children of men, To see if there are any who understand, who seek God. Every one of them has turned aside; They have together become corrupt; There is none who does good, No, not one. Have the workers of iniquity no knowledge, Who eat up my people as they eat bread, And do not call upon God?
Psalms 53:2-4 Amplified Bible (AMP)
God has looked down from heaven upon the children of men To see if there is anyone who understands, Who seeks after God [who requires Him, who longs for Him as essential to life]. Every one of them has turned aside and fallen away; Together they have become filthy and corrupt; There is no one who does good, no, not even one. [Rom 3:10-12] ¶Have workers of wickedness no knowledge or no understanding? They eat up My people as though they ate bread And have not called upon God.
Psalms 53:2-4 New Living Translation (NLT)
God looks down from heaven on the entire human race; he looks to see if anyone is truly wise, if anyone seeks God. But no, all have turned away; all have become corrupt. No one does good, not a single one! Will those who do evil never learn? They eat up my people like bread and wouldn’t think of praying to God.
Psalms 53:2-4 The Passion Translation (TPT)
The Lord looks down in love, bending over heaven’s balcony. God looks over all of Adam’s sons and daughters, looking to see if there are any who are wise with insight— any who search for him, wanting to please him. But no, all have wandered astray, walking stubbornly toward evil. Not one is good; he can’t even find one! Look how they live in luxury while exploiting my people. Won’t these workers of wickedness ever learn! They never even think of praying to God.
Psalms 53:2-4 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
God looks down from heaven on the children of man to see if there are any who understand, who seek after God. They have all fallen away; together they have become corrupt; there is none who does good, not even one. Have those who work evil no knowledge, who eat up my people as they eat bread, and do not call upon God?
