Psalms 44:2-6 - Compare All Versions

Psalms 44:2-6 NIV (New International Version)

With your hand you drove out the nations and planted our ancestors; you crushed the peoples and made our ancestors flourish. It was not by their sword that they won the land, nor did their arm bring them victory; it was your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face, for you loved them. You are my King and my God, who decrees victories for Jacob. Through you we push back our enemies; through your name we trample our foes. I put no trust in my bow, my sword does not bring me victory

Psalms 44:2-6 ESV (English Standard Version 2025)

you with your own hand drove out the nations, but them you planted; you afflicted the peoples, but them you set free; for not by their own sword did they win the land, nor did their own arm save them, but your right hand and your arm, and the light of your face, for you delighted in them. You are my King, O God; ordain salvation for Jacob! Through you we push down our foes; through your name we tread down those who rise up against us. For not in my bow do I trust, nor can my sword save me.

Psalms 44:2-6 NLT (New Living Translation)

You drove out the pagan nations by your power and gave all the land to our ancestors. You crushed their enemies and set our ancestors free. They did not conquer the land with their swords; it was not their own strong arm that gave them victory. It was your right hand and strong arm and the blinding light from your face that helped them, for you loved them. You are my King and my God. You command victories for Israel. Only by your power can we push back our enemies; only in your name can we trample our foes. I do not trust in my bow; I do not count on my sword to save me.

Psalms 44:2-6 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

In order to plant them, you displaced the nations by your hand; in order to settle them, you brought disaster on the peoples.  For they did not take the land by their sword — their arm did not bring them victory — but by your right hand, your arm, and the light of your face,  because you were favorable toward them.  You are my King, my God, who ordains  victories for Jacob.  Through you we drive back our foes; through your name we trample our enemies.  For I do not trust in my bow, and my sword does not bring me victory.

Psalms 44:2-6 KJV (King James Version)

How thou didst drive out the heathen with thy hand, and plantedst them; How thou didst afflict the people, and cast them out. For they got not the land in possession by their own sword, Neither did their own arm save them: But thy right hand, and thine arm, and the light of thy countenance, Because thou hadst a favour unto them. Thou art my King, O God: Command deliverances for Jacob. Through thee will we push down our enemies: Through thy name will we tread them under that rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Neither shall my sword save me.

Psalms 44:2-6 NKJV (New King James Version)

You drove out the nations with Your hand, But them You planted; You afflicted the peoples, and cast them out. For they did not gain possession of the land by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them; But it was Your right hand, Your arm, and the light of Your countenance, Because You favored them. You are my King, O God; Command victories for Jacob. Through You we will push down our enemies; Through Your name we will trample those who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Nor shall my sword save me.

Psalms 44:1-8 MSG (The Message)

We’ve been hearing about this, God, all our lives. Our fathers told us the stories their fathers told them, How single-handedly you weeded out the godless from the fields and planted us, How you sent those people packing but gave us a fresh start. We didn’t fight for this land; we didn’t work for it—it was a gift! You gave it, smiling as you gave it, delighting as you gave it. You’re my King, O God— command victories for Jacob! With your help we’ll wipe out our enemies, in your name we’ll stomp them to dust. I don’t trust in weapons; my sword won’t save me— But it’s you, you who saved us from the enemy; you made those who hate us lose face. All day we parade God’s praise— we thank you by name over and over.

Psalms 44:2-6 NASB2020 (New American Standard Bible - NASB)

You with Your own hand drove out the nations; Then You planted them; You afflicted the peoples, Then You let them go free. For by their own sword they did not possess the land, And their own arm did not save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, For You favored them. ¶You are my King, God; Command victories for Jacob. Through You we will push back our adversaries; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me.

Psalms 44:2-6 AMP (Amplified Bible)

You drove out the [pagan] nations with Your own hand; Then you planted and established them (Israel); [It was by Your power that] You uprooted the [pagan] peoples, Then You spread them abroad. For our fathers did not possess the land [of Canaan] by their own sword, Nor did their own arm save them, But Your right hand and Your arm and the light of Your presence, Because You favored and delighted in them. ¶You are my King, O God; Command victories and deliverance for Jacob (Israel). Through You we will gore our enemies [like a bull]; Through Your name we will trample down those who rise up against us. For I will not trust in my bow, Nor will my sword save me.

Psalms 44:2-6 NET (New English Translation)

You, by your power, defeated nations and settled our fathers on their land; you crushed the people living there and enabled our ancestors to occupy it. For they did not conquer the land by their swords, and they did not prevail by their strength, but rather by your power, strength and good favor, for you were partial to them. You are my king, O God! Decree Jacob’s deliverance! By your power we will drive back our enemies; by your strength we will trample down our foes! For I do not trust in my bow, and I do not prevail by my sword.
