Psalms 102:13-28 - Compare All Versions

Psalms 102:13-28 NIV (New International Version)

You will arise and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her; the appointed time has come. For her stones are dear to your servants; her very dust moves them to pity. The nations will fear the name of the LORD, all the kings of the earth will revere your glory. For the LORD will rebuild Zion and appear in his glory. He will respond to the prayer of the destitute; he will not despise their plea. Let this be written for a future generation, that a people not yet created may praise the LORD: “The LORD looked down from his sanctuary on high, from heaven he viewed the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners and release those condemned to death.” So the name of the LORD will be declared in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem when the peoples and the kingdoms assemble to worship the LORD. In the course of my life he broke my strength; he cut short my days. So I said: “Do not take me away, my God, in the midst of my days; your years go on through all generations. In the beginning you laid the foundations of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you remain; they will all wear out like a garment. Like clothing you will change them and they will be discarded. But you remain the same, and your years will never end. The children of your servants will live in your presence; their descendants will be established before you.”

Psalms 102:13-28 ESV (English Standard Version 2025)

You will arise and have pity on Zion; it is the time to favor her; the appointed time has come. For your servants hold her stones dear and have pity on her dust. Nations will fear the name of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth will fear your glory. For the LORD builds up Zion; he appears in his glory; he regards the prayer of the destitute and does not despise their prayer. Let this be recorded for a generation to come, so that a people yet to be created may praise the LORD: that he looked down from his holy height; from heaven the LORD looked at the earth, to hear the groans of the prisoners, to set free those who were doomed to die, that they may declare in Zion the name of the LORD, and in Jerusalem his praise, when peoples gather together, and kingdoms, to worship the LORD. He has broken my strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days. “O my God,” I say, “take me not away in the midst of my days— you whose years endure throughout all generations!” Of old you laid the foundation of the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands. They will perish, but you will remain; they will all wear out like a garment. You will change them like a robe, and they will pass away, but you are the same, and your years have no end. The children of your servants shall dwell secure; their offspring shall be established before you.

Psalms 102:13-28 NLT (New Living Translation)

You will arise and have mercy on Jerusalem— and now is the time to pity her, now is the time you promised to help. For your people love every stone in her walls and cherish even the dust in her streets. Then the nations will tremble before the LORD. The kings of the earth will tremble before his glory. For the LORD will rebuild Jerusalem. He will appear in his glory. He will listen to the prayers of the destitute. He will not reject their pleas. Let this be recorded for future generations, so that a people not yet born will praise the LORD. Tell them the LORD looked down from his heavenly sanctuary. He looked down to earth from heaven to hear the groans of the prisoners, to release those condemned to die. And so the LORD’s fame will be celebrated in Zion, his praises in Jerusalem, when multitudes gather together and kingdoms come to worship the LORD. He broke my strength in midlife, cutting short my days. But I cried to him, “O my God, who lives forever, don’t take my life while I am so young! Long ago you laid the foundation of the earth and made the heavens with your hands. They will perish, but you remain forever; they will wear out like old clothing. You will change them like a garment and discard them. But you are always the same; you will live forever. The children of your people will live in security. Their children’s children will thrive in your presence.”

Psalms 102:13-28 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

You will rise up and have compassion on Zion, for it is time to show favor to her — the appointed time has come.  For your servants take delight in its stones and favor its dust.  Then the nations will fear the name of the  LORD, and all the kings of the earth your glory,  for the LORD will rebuild Zion; he will appear in his glory.  He will pay attention to the prayer of the destitute and will not despise their prayer.  This will be written for a later generation, and a people who have not yet been created will praise the  LORD:  He looked down from his holy heights — the LORD gazed out from heaven to earth   — to hear a prisoner’s groaning, to set free those condemned to die,  , so that they might declare the name of the  LORD in Zion and his praise in Jerusalem  when peoples and kingdoms are assembled to serve the  LORD.  He has broken my   strength in midcourse; he has shortened my days.  I say, “My God, do not take me in the middle of my life!  Your years continue through all generations.  Long ago you established the earth, and the heavens are the work of your hands.  They will perish, but you will endure; all of them will wear out like clothing. You will change them like a garment, and they will pass away.  But you are the same, and your years will never end.  Your servants’ children will dwell securely, and their offspring will be established before you.”

Psalms 102:13-28 KJV (King James Version)

Thou shalt arise, and have mercy upon Zion: For the time to favour her, yea, the set time, is come. For thy servants take pleasure in her stones, And favour the dust thereof. So the heathen shall fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth thy glory. When the LORD shall build up Zion, He shall appear in his glory. He will regard the prayer of the destitute, And not despise their prayer. This shall be written for the generation to come: And the people which shall be created shall praise the LORD. For he hath looked down from the height of his sanctuary; From heaven did the LORD behold the earth; To hear the groaning of the prisoner; To loose those that are appointed to death; To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, And his praise in Jerusalem; When the people are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days. I said, O my God, take me not away in the midst of my days: Thy years are throughout all generations. Of old hast thou laid the foundation of the earth: And the heavens are the work of thy hands. They shall perish, but thou shalt endure: Yea, all of them shall wax old like a garment; As a vesture shalt thou change them, and they shall be changed: But thou art the same, and thy years shall have no end. The children of thy servants shall continue, And their seed shall be established before thee.

Psalms 102:13-28 NKJV (New King James Version)

You will arise and have mercy on Zion; For the time to favor her, Yes, the set time, has come. For Your servants take pleasure in her stones, And show favor to her dust. So the nations shall fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth Your glory. For the LORD shall build up Zion; He shall appear in His glory. He shall regard the prayer of the destitute, And shall not despise their prayer. This will be written for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD. For He looked down from the height of His sanctuary; From heaven the LORD viewed the earth, To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To release those appointed to death, To declare the name of the LORD in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem, When the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. He weakened my strength in the way; He shortened my days. I said, “O my God, Do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are throughout all generations. Of old You laid the foundation of the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. They will perish, but You will endure; Yes, they will all grow old like a garment; Like a cloak You will change them, And they will be changed. But You are the same, And Your years will have no end. The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You.”

Psalms 102:12-28 MSG (The Message)

Yet you, GOD, are sovereign still, always and ever sovereign. You’ll get up from your throne and help Zion— it’s time for compassionate help. Oh, how your servants love this city’s rubble and weep with compassion over its dust! The godless nations will sit up and take notice —see your glory, worship your name— When GOD rebuilds Zion, when he shows up in all his glory, When he attends to the prayer of the wretched. He won’t dismiss their prayer. Write this down for the next generation so people not yet born will praise GOD: “GOD looked out from his high holy place; from heaven he surveyed the earth. He listened to the groans of the doomed, he opened the doors of their death cells.” Write it so the story can be told in Zion, so GOD’s praise will be sung in Jerusalem’s streets And wherever people gather together along with their rulers to worship him. GOD sovereignly brought me to my knees, he cut me down in my prime. “Oh, don’t,” I prayed, “please don’t let me die. You have more years than you know what to do with! You laid earth’s foundations a long time ago, and handcrafted the very heavens; You’ll still be around when they’re long gone, threadbare and discarded like an old suit of clothes. You’ll throw them away like a worn-out coat, but year after year you’re as good as new. Your servants’ children will have a good place to live and their children will be at home with you.”

Psalms 102:13-28 NASB2020 (New American Standard Bible - NASB)

You will arise and have compassion on Zion; For it is time to be gracious to her, For the appointed time has come. Surely Your servants take pleasure in her stones, And feel pity for her dust. So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth, Your glory. For the LORD has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory. He has turned His attention to the prayer of the destitute And has not despised their prayer. ¶This will be written for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created may praise the LORD: For He looked down from His holy height; From heaven the LORD looked upon the earth, To hear the groaning of the prisoner, To set free those who were doomed to death, So that people may tell of the name of the LORD in Zion, And His praise in Jerusalem, When the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. ¶He has broken my strength in the way; He has shortened my days. I say, “My God, do not take me away in the middle of my days, Your years are throughout all generations. “In time of old You founded the earth, And the heavens are the work of Your hands. “Even they will perish, but You endure; All of them will wear out like a garment; Like clothing You will change them and they will pass away. “But You are the same, And Your years will not come to an end. “The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You.”

Psalms 102:13-28 AMP (Amplified Bible)

You will arise and have compassion on Zion, For it is time to be gracious and show favor to her; Yes, the appointed time [the moment designated] has come. [Ps 12:5; 119:126] For Your servants find [melancholy] pleasure in the stones [of her ruins] And feel pity for her dust. So the nations will fear the name of the LORD, And all the kings of the earth [will recognize] Your glory. [Ps 96:9] For the LORD has built up Zion; He has appeared in His glory and brilliance; He has regarded the prayer of the destitute, And has not despised their prayer. ¶Let this be recorded for the generation to come, That a people yet to be created will praise the LORD. For He looked down from His holy height [of His sanctuary], From heaven the LORD gazed on the earth, To hear the sighing of the prisoner, To set free those who were doomed to death, So that people may declare the name of the LORD in Zion And His praise in Jerusalem, When the peoples are gathered together, And the kingdoms, to serve the LORD. ¶He has exhausted my strength [humbling me with sorrow] in the way; He has shortened my days. I said, “O my God, do not take me away in the midst of my days; Your years are [eternal] throughout all generations. “At the beginning You founded the earth; The heavens are the work of Your hands. “Even they will perish, but You endure; Yes, all of them will wear out like a garment. Like clothing You will change them and they shall be changed. “But You remain the same, And Your years will never end. [Heb 1:10-12] “The children of Your servants will continue, And their descendants will be established before You.”

Psalms 102:13-28 NET (New English Translation)

You will rise up and have compassion on Zion. For it is time to have mercy on her, for the appointed time has come. Indeed, your servants take delight in her stones, and feel compassion for the dust of her ruins. The nations will respect the reputation of the LORD, and all the kings of the earth will respect his splendor, when the LORD rebuilds Zion, and reveals his splendor, when he responds to the prayer of the destitute, and does not reject their request. The account of his intervention will be recorded for future generations; people yet to be born will praise the LORD. For he will look down from his sanctuary above; from heaven the LORD will look toward earth, in order to hear the painful cries of the prisoners, and to set free those condemned to die, so they may proclaim the name of the LORD in Zion, and praise him in Jerusalem, when the nations gather together, and the kingdoms pay tribute to the LORD. He has taken away my strength in the middle of life; he has cut short my days. I say, “O my God, please do not take me away in the middle of my life! You endure through all generations. In earlier times you established the earth; the skies are your handiwork. They will perish, but you will endure. They will wear out like a garment; like clothes you will remove them and they will disappear. But you remain; your years do not come to an end. The children of your servants will settle down here, and their descendants will live securely in your presence.”
