Leave your simple ways and you will live; walk in the way of insight.”

Folly is an unruly woman; she is simple and knows nothing.

“Let all who are simple come to my house!” To those who have no sense she says

Leave your simple ways, and live, and walk in the way of insight.”

The woman Folly is loud; she is seductive and knows nothing.

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks sense she says

Leave your simple ways behind, and begin to live; learn to use good judgment.”

The woman named Folly is brash. She is ignorant and doesn’t know it.

“Come in with me,” she urges the simple. To those who lack good judgment, she says

Leave inexperience behind, and you will live; pursue the way of understanding.

Folly is a rowdy woman;  she is gullible and knows nothing.

“Whoever is inexperienced, enter here! ” To the one who lacks sense, she says

Forsake the foolish, and live; And go in the way of understanding.

A foolish woman is clamorous: She is simple, and knoweth nothing.

Whoso is simple, let him turn in hither: And as for him that wanteth understanding, she saith to him

Forsake foolishness and live, And go in the way of understanding.

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here”; And as for him who lacks understanding, she says to him

Lady Wisdom has built and furnished her home; it’s supported by seven hewn timbers. The banquet meal is ready to be served: lamb roasted, wine poured out, table set with silver and flowers. Having dismissed her serving maids, Lady Wisdom goes to town, stands in a prominent place, and invites everyone within sound of her voice: “Are you confused about life, don’t know what’s going on? Come with me, oh come, have dinner with me! I’ve prepared a wonderful spread—fresh-baked bread, roast lamb, carefully selected wines. Leave your impoverished confusion and live! Walk up the street to a life with meaning.” * * *

Then there’s this other woman, Madame Prostitute— brazen, empty-headed, frivolous. She sits on the front porch of her house on Main Street, And as people walk by minding their own business, calls out, “Are you confused about life, don’t know what’s going on? Steal off with me, I’ll show you a good time! No one will ever know—I’ll give you the time of your life.” But they don’t know about all the skeletons in her closet, that all her guests end up in hell.

Then there’s this other woman, Madame Prostitute— brazen, empty-headed, frivolous. ¶A woman of foolishness is boisterous, She has a lack of understanding and knows nothing.

“Whoever is naive, let him turn in here,” And to him who lacks understanding she says

“Leave [behind] your foolishness [and the foolish] and live, And walk in the way of insight and understanding.”

¶The foolish woman is restless and noisy; She is naive and easily misled and thoughtless, and knows nothing at all [of eternal value].

“Whoever is naive or inexperienced, let him turn in here!” And to him who lacks understanding (common sense), she says

Abandon your foolish ways so that you may live, and proceed in the way of understanding.”

The woman called Folly is brash, she is naive and does not know anything.

“Whoever is simple, let him turn in here,” she says to those who lack understanding.
