He went back to teaching by the sea. A crowd built up to such a great size that he had to get into an offshore boat, using the boat as a pulpit as the people pushed to the water’s edge. He taught by using stories, many stories.

He continued, “Do you see how this story works? All my stories work this way.

With many stories like these, he presented his message to them, fitting the stories to their experience and maturity. He was never without a story when he spoke. When he was alone with his disciples, he went over everything, sorting out the tangles, untying the knots.

And he taught them many things by parables, and said unto them in his doctrine

And he said unto them, Know ye not this parable? and how then will ye know all parables?

And with many such parables spake he the word unto them, as they were able to hear it.

And He was teaching them many things in parables, and was saying to them in His teaching

And He *said to them, “Do you not understand this parable? How will you understand all the parables?

With many such parables He was speaking the word to them, so far as they were able to hear it

Jesus taught them many things, using stories. He said

Then Jesus said to his followers, “Don’t you understand this story? If you don’t, how will you understand any story?

Jesus used many stories like these to teach the crowd God’s message—as much as they could understand.

And he taught them many things in parables, and said unto them in his teaching
