Later they sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Jesus to catch him in his words.

Then the Sadducees, who say there is no resurrection, came to him with a question.

And they sent to him some of the Pharisees and some of the Herodians, to trap him in his talk.

And Sadducees came to him, who say that there is no resurrection. And they asked him a question, saying

Later the leaders sent some Pharisees and supporters of Herod to trap Jesus into saying something for which he could be arrested.

Then Jesus was approached by some Sadducees—religious leaders who say there is no resurrection from the dead. They posed this question

Tell us: Is it lawful to pay taxes to Caesar or not?”

Some Sadducees, the party that denies any possibility of resurrection, came up and asked, “Teacher, Moses wrote that if a man dies and leaves a wife but no child, his brother is obligated to marry the widow and have children. Well, there once were seven brothers. The first took a wife. He died childless. The second married her. He died, and still no child. The same with the third. All seven took their turn, but no child. Finally the wife died. When they are raised at the resurrection, whose wife is she? All seven were her husband.”

Then they *sent some of the Pharisees and Herodians to Him in order to trap Him in a statement.

Some Sadducees (who say that there is no resurrection) *came to Jesus, and began questioning Him, saying
