Job 39:13-15
Job 39:13-18 The Message (MSG)
“The ostrich flaps her wings futilely— all those beautiful feathers, but useless! She lays her eggs on the hard ground, leaves them there in the dirt, exposed to the weather, Not caring that they might get stepped on and cracked or trampled by some wild animal. She’s negligent with her young, as if they weren’t even hers. She cares nothing about anything. She wasn’t created very smart, that’s for sure, wasn’t given her share of good sense. But when she runs, oh, how she runs, laughing, leaving horse and rider in the dust.
Job 39:13-15 King James Version (KJV)
Gavest thou the goodly wings unto the peacocks? Or wings and feathers unto the ostrich? Which leaveth her eggs in the earth, And warmeth them in dust, And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may break them.
Job 39:13-15 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
“The ostriches’ wings flap joyously With the pinion and plumage of love, For she abandons her eggs to the earth And warms them in the dust, And she forgets that a foot may crush them, Or that a wild beast may trample them.
Job 39:13-15 New Century Version (NCV)
“The wings of the ostrich flap happily, but they are not like the feathers of the stork. The ostrich lays its eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand. It does not stop to think that a foot might step on them and crush them; it does not care that some animal might walk on them.
Job 39:13-15 American Standard Version (ASV)
The wings of the ostrich wave proudly; But are they the pinions and plumage of love? For she leaveth her eggs on the earth, And warmeth them in the dust, And forgetteth that the foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may trample them.
Job 39:13-15 New International Version (NIV)
“The wings of the ostrich flap joyfully, though they cannot compare with the wings and feathers of the stork. She lays her eggs on the ground and lets them warm in the sand, unmindful that a foot may crush them, that some wild animal may trample them.
Job 39:13-15 New King James Version (NKJV)
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, But are her wings and pinions like the kindly stork’s? For she leaves her eggs on the ground, And warms them in the dust; She forgets that a foot may crush them, Or that a wild beast may break them.
Job 39:13-15 Amplified Bible (AMP)
¶“The [flightless] wings of the ostrich wave joyously; With the pinion (shackles, fetters) and plumage of love, For she leaves her eggs on the ground And warms them in the dust, Forgetting that a foot may crush them, Or that the wild beast may trample them.
Job 39:13-15 New Living Translation (NLT)
“The ostrich flaps her wings grandly, but they are no match for the feathers of the stork. She lays her eggs on top of the earth, letting them be warmed in the dust. She doesn’t worry that a foot might crush them or a wild animal might destroy them.
Job 39:13-15 English Standard Version 2025 (ESV)
“The wings of the ostrich wave proudly, but are they the pinions and plumage of love? For she leaves her eggs to the earth and lets them be warmed on the ground, forgetting that a foot may crush them and that the wild beast may trample them.
