These are the nations the LORD left to test all those Israelites who had not experienced any of the wars in Canaan

They were left to test the Israelites to see whether they would obey the LORD’s commands, which he had given their ancestors through Moses.

Now these are the nations that the LORD left, to test Israel by them, that is, all in Israel who had not experienced all the wars in Canaan.

They were for the testing of Israel, to know whether Israel would obey the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

These are the nations that the LORD left in the land to test those Israelites who had not experienced the wars of Canaan.

These people were left to test the Israelites—to see whether they would obey the commands the LORD had given to their ancestors through Moses.

These are the nations the LORD left in order to test all those in Israel who had experienced none of the wars in Canaan.

The LORD left them to test Israel, to determine if they would keep the LORD’s commands he had given their ancestors through Moses.

Now these are the nations which the LORD left, to prove Israel by them, even as many of Israel as had not known all the wars of Canaan

And they were to prove Israel by them, to know whether they would hearken unto the commandments of the LORD, which he commanded their fathers by the hand of Moses.

These are the nations that GOD left there, using them to test the Israelites who had no experience in the Canaanite wars. He did it to train the descendants of Israel, the ones who had no battle experience, in the art of war. He left the five Philistine tyrants, all the Canaanites, the Sidonians, and the Hivites living on Mount Lebanon from Mount Baal Hermon to Hamath’s Pass. They were there to test Israel and see whether they would obey GOD’s commands that were given to their parents through Moses.

They were [allowed to remain] for the testing of Israel, to determine whether Israel would listen to and obey the commandments of the LORD, which He had commanded their fathers (ancestors) through Moses.

These were the nations the LORD permitted to remain so he could use them to test Israel – he wanted to test all those who had not experienced battle against the Canaanites.

They were left to test Israel, so the LORD would know if his people would obey the commands he gave their ancestors through Moses.
