Hosea 13:7-12
Hosea 13:7-12 The Message (MSG)
“I’ll charge them like a lion, like a leopard stalking in the brush. I’ll jump them like a sow grizzly robbed of her cubs. I’ll rip out their guts. Coyotes will make a meal of them. Crows will clean their bones. I’m going to destroy you, Israel. Who is going to stop me? Where is your trusty king you thought would save you? Where are all the local leaders you wanted so badly? All these rulers you insisted on having, demanding, ‘Give me a king! Give me leaders!’? Well, long ago I gave you a king, but I wasn’t happy about it. Now, fed up, I’ve gotten rid of him. I have a detailed record of your infidelities— Ephraim’s sin documented and stored in a safe-deposit box.
Hosea 13:7-12 King James Version (KJV)
Therefore I will be unto them as a lion: as a leopard by the way will I observe them: I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart, and there will I devour them like a lion: the wild beast shall tear them. O Israel, thou hast destroyed thyself; but in me is thine help. I will be thy king: where is any other that may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? I gave thee a king in mine anger, and took him away in my wrath. The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is hid.
Hosea 13:7-12 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
So I will be like a lion to them; Like a leopard I will lie in wait by the wayside. I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, And I will tear open their chests; There I will also devour them like a lioness, As a wild beast would tear them. It is your destruction, O Israel, That you are against Me, against your help. Where now is your king That he may save you in all your cities, And your judges of whom you requested, “Give me a king and princes”? I gave you a king in My anger And took him away in My wrath. The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; His sin is stored up.
Hosea 13:7-12 New Century Version (NCV)
That is why I will be like a lion to them, like a leopard waiting by the road. I will attack like a bear robbed of her cubs, ripping their bodies open. I will devour them like a lion and tear them apart like a wild animal. “Israel, I will destroy you. Who will be your helper then? What good is your king? Can he save you in any of your towns? What good are your leaders? You said, ‘Give us a king and leaders.’ So I gave you a king, but only in anger, and I took him away in my great anger. The sins of Israel are on record, stored away, waiting for punishment.
Hosea 13:7-12 American Standard Version (ASV)
Therefore am I unto them as a lion; as a leopard will I watch by the way; I will meet them as a bear that is bereaved of her whelps, and will rend the caul of their heart; and there will I devour them like a lioness; the wild beast shall tear them. It is thy destruction, O Israel, that thou art against me, against thy help. Where now is thy king, that he may save thee in all thy cities? and thy judges, of whom thou saidst, Give me a king and princes? I have given thee a king in mine anger, and have taken him away in my wrath. The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is laid up in store.
Hosea 13:7-12 New International Version (NIV)
So I will be like a lion to them, like a leopard I will lurk by the path. Like a bear robbed of her cubs, I will attack them and rip them open; like a lion I will devour them— a wild animal will tear them apart. “You are destroyed, Israel, because you are against me, against your helper. Where is your king, that he may save you? Where are your rulers in all your towns, of whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’? So in my anger I gave you a king, and in my wrath I took him away. The guilt of Ephraim is stored up, his sins are kept on record.
Hosea 13:7-12 New King James Version (NKJV)
“So I will be to them like a lion; Like a leopard by the road I will lurk; I will meet them like a bear deprived of her cubs; I will tear open their rib cage, And there I will devour them like a lion. The wild beast shall tear them. “O Israel, you are destroyed, But your help is from Me. I will be your King; Where is any other, That he may save you in all your cities? And your judges to whom you said, ‘Give me a king and princes’? I gave you a king in My anger, And took him away in My wrath. “The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; His sin is stored up.
Hosea 13:7-12 Amplified Bible (AMP)
So I will be like a lion to them; Like a leopard I will watch and lie in wait [ready to attack] by the road [to Assyria]. I will encounter them like a bear robbed of her cubs, And I will tear open their chests; There I will also devour them like a lioness, As a wild beast would tear them. ¶It is your destruction, O Israel, Because you are against Me, [and have rebelled] against your help. Where now is your king That he may save you [when you are attacked] in all your cities? And your judges of whom you asked, “Give me a king and princes”? I gave you a king in My anger, And I took him away in My wrath [as punishment]. ¶The wickedness of Ephraim [which is not yet completely punished] is bound up [as in a bag]; His sin is stored up [for judgment and destruction].
Hosea 13:7-12 New Living Translation (NLT)
So now I will attack you like a lion, like a leopard that lurks along the road. Like a bear whose cubs have been taken away, I will tear out your heart. I will devour you like a hungry lioness and mangle you like a wild animal. “You are about to be destroyed, O Israel— yes, by me, your only helper. Now where is your king? Let him save you! Where are all the leaders of the land, the king and the officials you demanded of me? In my anger I gave you kings, and in my fury I took them away. “Ephraim’s guilt has been collected, and his sin has been stored up for punishment.
Hosea 13:7-12 The Passion Translation (TPT)
So now I will be like a male lion to you, like a leopard lurking beside the path. I will attack you like a charging bear robbed of her cubs, and will rip open your chest. Like a lioness, I will devour you on the spot; like a wild beast I will tear you to shreds! Israel, you have destroyed yourself, because you are against me, your only help.” “Where is your king now, who could save you in all your cities? Where are your rulers, of whom you said, ‘Give us a king and leaders’? In my anger, I gave you kings, and in my wrath, I have taken them away. “Ephraim’s sin is recorded; his guilt is on record and kept in store.
Hosea 13:7-12 English Standard Version 2025 (ESV)
So I am to them like a lion; like a leopard I will lurk beside the way. I will fall upon them like a bear robbed of her cubs; I will tear open their breast, and there I will devour them like a lion, as a wild beast would rip them open. He destroys you, O Israel, for you are against me, against your helper. Where now is your king, to save you in all your cities? Where are all your rulers— those of whom you said, “Give me a king and princes”? I gave you a king in my anger, and I took him away in my wrath. The iniquity of Ephraim is bound up; his sin is kept in store.
