Ephron the Hittite was sitting among his people and he replied to Abraham in the hearing of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of his city.

to Abraham as his property in the presence of all the Hittites who had come to the gate of the city.

Now Ephron was sitting among the Hittites, and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the hearing of the Hittites, of all who went in at the gate of his city

to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the Hittites, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

Ephron was sitting there among the others, and he answered Abraham as the others listened, speaking publicly before all the Hittite elders of the town.

It was transferred to Abraham as his permanent possession in the presence of the Hittite elders at the city gate.

Ephron was sitting among the Hethites. So in the hearing  of all the Hethites who came to the gate of his city,  Ephron the Hethite answered Abraham

Abraham’s possession in the sight of all the Hethites who came to the gate of his city.

And Ephron dwelt among the children of Heth: and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the audience of the children of Heth, even of all that went in at the gate of his city, saying

unto Abraham for a possession in the presence of the children of Heth, before all that went in at the gate of his city.

Now Ephron dwelt among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham in the presence of the sons of Heth, all who entered at the gate of his city, saying

to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who went in at the gate of his city.

Ephron was part of the local Hittite community. Then Ephron the Hittite spoke up, answering Abraham with all the Hittites who were part of the town council listening: “Oh no, my master! I couldn’t do that. The field is yours—a gift. I’ll give it and the cave to you. With my people as witnesses, I give it to you. Bury your deceased wife.”

That’s how Ephron’s field next to Mamre—the field, its cave, and all the trees within its borders—became Abraham’s property. The town council of Hittites witnessed the transaction. Abraham then proceeded to bury his wife Sarah in the cave in the field of Machpelah that is next to Mamre, present-day Hebron, in the land of Canaan. The field and its cave went from the Hittites into Abraham’s possession as a burial plot.

Now Ephron was sitting among the sons of Heth; and Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham so that the sons of Heth heard, that is, all who entered the gate of his city, saying

to Abraham as a possession in the presence of the sons of Heth, before all who entered the gate of his city.

Now Ephron was present there among the sons of Heth; so within the hearing of all the sons of Heth and all who were entering the gate of his city, Ephron the Hittite answered Abraham, saying

to Abraham as his possession in the presence of the Hittites, before all who were entering at the gate of his city.

(Now Ephron was sitting among the sons of Heth.) Ephron the Hethite replied to Abraham in the hearing of the sons of Heth – before all who entered the gate of his city

as his property in the presence of the sons of Heth before all who entered the gate of Ephron’s city.
