Ezekiel 33:32-33
Ezekiel 33:30-33 The Message (MSG)
“As for you, son of man, you’ve become quite the talk of the town. Your people meet on street corners and in front of their houses and say, ‘Let’s go hear the latest news from GOD.’ They show up, as people tend to do, and sit in your company. They listen to you speak, but don’t do a thing you say. They flatter you with compliments, but all they care about is making money and getting ahead. To them you’re merely entertainment—a country singer of sad love songs, playing a guitar. They love to hear you talk, but nothing comes of it. “But when all this happens—and it is going to happen!—they’ll realize that a prophet was among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 King James Version (KJV)
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument: for they hear thy words, but they do them not. And when this cometh to pass, (lo, it will come,) then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
Ezekiel 33:32-33 New American Standard Bible - NASB 1995 (NASB1995)
Behold, you are to them like a sensual song by one who has a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument; for they hear your words but they do not practice them. So when it comes to pass—as surely it will—then they will know that a prophet has been in their midst.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 New Century Version (NCV)
To your people you are nothing more than a singer who sings love songs and has a beautiful voice and plays a musical instrument well. They hear your words, but they will not obey them. “When this comes true, and it surely will happen, then the people will know that a prophet has been among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 American Standard Version (ASV)
And, lo, thou art unto them as a very lovely song of one that hath a pleasant voice, and can play well on an instrument; for they hear thy words, but they do them not. And when this cometh to pass (behold, it cometh), then shall they know that a prophet hath been among them.
Ezekiel 33:32-33 New International Version (NIV)
Indeed, to them you are nothing more than one who sings love songs with a beautiful voice and plays an instrument well, for they hear your words but do not put them into practice. “When all this comes true—and it surely will—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 New King James Version (NKJV)
Indeed you are to them as a very lovely song of one who has a pleasant voice and can play well on an instrument; for they hear your words, but they do not do them. And when this comes to pass—surely it will come—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 Amplified Bible (AMP)
Behold, you are to them like a love song by one who has a pleasant voice and plays well on a stringed instrument [merely to entertain them]; for they hear your words but do not practice them. So when it comes to pass—as it most certainly will—then they will know [without any doubt] that a prophet has been among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 New Living Translation (NLT)
You are very entertaining to them, like someone who sings love songs with a beautiful voice or plays fine music on an instrument. They hear what you say, but they don’t act on it! But when all these terrible things happen to them—as they certainly will—then they will know a prophet has been among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 The Passion Translation (TPT)
As far as they are concerned, you are like an entertainer who sings a love song with a beautiful voice to a good musical accompaniment. They hear what you say, but no one will do it. When all your prophecies come true —and they are beginning to be fulfilled now—they will know that there has been a true prophet among them.”
Ezekiel 33:32-33 English Standard Version 2016 (ESV)
And behold, you are to them like one who sings lustful songs with a beautiful voice and plays well on an instrument, for they hear what you say, but they will not do it. When this comes—and come it will!—then they will know that a prophet has been among them.”
