Acts 15:8-11,19 - Compare All Versions

Acts 15:8-11 NIV (New International Version)

God, who knows the heart, showed that he accepted them by giving the Holy Spirit to them, just as he did to us. He did not discriminate between us and them, for he purified their hearts by faith. Now then, why do you try to test God by putting on the necks of Gentiles a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors have been able to bear? No! We believe it is through the grace of our Lord Jesus that we are saved, just as they are.”

Acts 15:19 NIV (New International Version)

“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

Acts 15:8-11 ESV (English Standard Version 2025)

And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them, by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between us and them, having cleansed their hearts by faith. Now, therefore, why are you putting God to the test by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples that neither our fathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we will be saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, just as they will.”

Acts 15:19 ESV (English Standard Version 2025)

Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God

Acts 15:8-11 NLT (New Living Translation)

God knows people’s hearts, and he confirmed that he accepts Gentiles by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he did to us. He made no distinction between us and them, for he cleansed their hearts through faith. So why are you now challenging God by burdening the Gentile believers with a yoke that neither we nor our ancestors were able to bear? We believe that we are all saved the same way, by the undeserved grace of the Lord Jesus.”

Acts of the Apostles 15:19 NLT (New Living Translation)

“And so my judgment is that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

Acts 15:8-11 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

And God, who knows the heart, bore witness to them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as he also did to us.  He made no distinction between us and them,  cleansing their hearts by faith.  Now then, why are you testing God by putting a yoke on the disciples’ necks  that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace  of the Lord Jesus in the same way they are.”

Acts 15:19 CSB (Christian Standard Bible)

Therefore, in my judgment, we should not cause difficulties for those among the Gentiles who turn to God

Acts 15:8-11 KJV (King James Version)

And God, which knoweth the hearts, bare them witness, giving them the Holy Ghost, even as he did unto us; and put no difference between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore why tempt ye God, to put a yoke upon the neck of the disciples, which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved, even as they.

Acts 15:19 KJV (King James Version)

Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God

Acts 15:8-11 NKJV (New King James Version)

So God, who knows the heart, acknowledged them by giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He did to us, and made no distinction between us and them, purifying their hearts by faith. Now therefore, why do you test God by putting a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we were able to bear? But we believe that through the grace of the Lord Jesus Christ we shall be saved in the same manner as they.”

Acts 15:19 NKJV (New King James Version)

Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God

Acts 15:6-11 MSG (The Message)

The apostles and leaders called a special meeting to consider the matter. The arguments went on and on, back and forth, getting more and more heated. Then Peter took the floor: “Friends, you well know that from early on God made it quite plain that he wanted the pagans to hear the Message of this good news and embrace it—and not in any secondhand or roundabout way, but firsthand, straight from my mouth. And God, who can’t be fooled by any pretense on our part but always knows a person’s thoughts, gave them the Holy Spirit exactly as he gave him to us. He treated the outsiders exactly as he treated us, beginning at the very center of who they were and working from that center outward, cleaning up their lives as they trusted and believed him. “So why are you now trying to out-god God, loading these new believers down with rules that crushed our ancestors and crushed us, too? Don’t we believe that we are saved because the Master Jesus amazingly and out of sheer generosity moved to save us just as he did those from beyond our nation? So what are we arguing about?”

Acts 15:19-21 MSG (The Message)

“So here is my decision: We’re not going to unnecessarily burden non-Jewish people who turn to the Master. We’ll write them a letter and tell them, ‘Be careful to not get involved in activities connected with idols, to guard the morality of sex and marriage, to not serve food offensive to Jewish Christians—blood, for instance.’ This is basic wisdom from Moses, preached and honored for centuries now in city after city as we have met and kept the Sabbath.”

Acts 15:8-11 NASB2020 (New American Standard Bible - NASB)

And God, who knows the heart, testified to them giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith. Since this is the case, why are you putting God to the test by placing upon the neck of the disciples a yoke which neither our forefathers nor we have been able to bear? But we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they also are.”

Acts 15:19 NASB2020 (New American Standard Bible - NASB)

Therefore, it is my judgment that we do not cause trouble for those from the Gentiles who are turning to God

Acts 15:8-11 AMP (Amplified Bible)

And God, who knows and understands the heart, testified to them, giving them the Holy Spirit, just as He also did to us; and He made no distinction between us and them, cleansing their hearts by faith [in Jesus]. Now then, why are you testing God by placing a yoke on the neck of the disciples which neither our fathers nor we have been able to endure? But we believe that we are saved through the [precious, undeserved] grace of the Lord Jesus [which makes us free of the guilt of sin and grants us eternal life], in just the same way as they are.”

Acts 15:19 AMP (Amplified Bible)

Therefore it is my judgment that we do not trouble and make it difficult for those who are turning to God among the Gentiles [by putting obstacles in their way]

Acts 15:8-11 NET (New English Translation)

And God, who knows the heart, has testified to them by giving them the Holy Spirit just as he did to us, and he made no distinction between them and us, cleansing their hearts by faith. So now why are you putting God to the test by placing on the neck of the disciples a yoke that neither our ancestors nor we have been able to bear? On the contrary, we believe that we are saved through the grace of the Lord Jesus, in the same way as they are.”

Acts 15:19 NET (New English Translation)

“Therefore I conclude that we should not cause extra difficulty for those among the Gentiles who are turning to God
