When they finished, James spoke up. “Brothers,” he said, “listen to me.

“It is my judgment, therefore, that we should not make it difficult for the Gentiles who are turning to God.

After they finished speaking, James replied, “Brothers, listen to me.

Therefore my judgment is that we should not trouble those of the Gentiles who turn to God

Wherefore my sentence is, that we trouble not them, which from among the Gentiles are turned to God

And after they had become silent, James answered, saying, “Men and brethren, listen to me

Therefore I judge that we should not trouble those from among the Gentiles who are turning to God

There was dead silence. No one said a word. With the room quiet, Barnabas and Paul reported matter-of-factly on the miracles and wonders God had done among the other nations through their ministry. “So here is my decision: We’re not going to unnecessarily burden non-Jewish people who turn to the Master. We’ll write them a letter and tell them, ‘Be careful to not get involved in activities connected with idols, to guard the morality of sex and marriage, to not serve food offensive to Jewish Christians—blood, for instance.’ This is basic wisdom from Moses, preached and honored for centuries now in city after city as we have met and kept the Sabbath.”

After they stopped speaking, James responded, saying, “Brothers, listen to me.

Therefore, it is my judgment that we do not cause trouble for those from the Gentiles who are turning to God
