You became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you welcomed the message in the midst of severe suffering with the joy given by the Holy Spirit.

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, for you received the word in much affliction, with the joy of the Holy Spirit

So you received the message with joy from the Holy Spirit in spite of the severe suffering it brought you. In this way, you imitated both us and the Lord.

and you yourselves became imitators of us and of the Lord when, in spite of severe persecution, you welcomed the message  with joy from the Holy Spirit.

And ye became followers of us, and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Ghost

And you became followers of us and of the Lord, having received the word in much affliction, with joy of the Holy Spirit

You paid careful attention to the way we lived among you, and determined to live that way yourselves. In imitating us, you imitated the Master. Although great trouble accompanied the Word, you were able to take great joy from the Holy Spirit!—taking the trouble with the joy, the joy with the trouble.

You also became imitators of us and of the Lord, having received the word during great affliction with the joy of the Holy Spirit

You became imitators of us and [through us] of the Lord, after you welcomed our message in [a time of] great trouble with the joy supplied by the Holy Spirit

And you became imitators of us and of the Lord, when you received the message with joy that comes from the Holy Spirit, despite great affliction.
