Revelation 12
12
The Woman, Her Son, and the Dragon
1-2A great Sign appeared in Heaven: a Woman dressed all in sunlight, standing on the moon, and crowned with Twelve Stars. She was giving birth to a Child and cried out in the pain of childbirth.
3-4And then another Sign alongside the first: a huge and fiery Dragon! It had seven heads and ten horns, a crown on each of the seven heads. With one flick of its tail it knocked a third of the Stars from the sky and dumped them on earth. The Dragon crouched before the Woman in childbirth, poised to eat up the Child when it came.
5-6The Woman gave birth to a Son who will shepherd all nations with an iron rod. Her Son was seized and placed safely before God on his Throne. The Woman herself escaped to the desert to a place of safety prepared by God, all comforts provided her for 1,260 days.
7-12War broke out in Heaven. Michael and his Angels fought the Dragon. The Dragon and his Angels fought back, but were no match for Michael. They were cleared out of Heaven, not a sign of them left. The great Dragon—ancient Serpent, the one called Devil and Satan, the one who led the whole earth astray—thrown out, and all his Angels thrown out with him, thrown down to earth. Then I heard a strong voice out of Heaven saying,
Salvation and power are established!
Kingdom of our God, authority of his Messiah!
The Accuser of our brothers and sisters thrown out,
who accused them day and night before God.
They defeated him through the blood of the Lamb
and the bold word of their witness.
They weren’t in love with themselves;
they were willing to die for Christ.
So rejoice, O Heavens, and all who live there,
but doom to earth and sea,
For the Devil’s come down on you with both feet;
he’s had a great fall;
He’s wild and raging with anger;
he hasn’t much time and he knows it.
13-17When the Dragon saw he’d been thrown to earth, he went after the Woman who had given birth to the Man-Child. The Woman was given wings of a great eagle to fly to a place in the desert to be kept in safety and comfort for a time and times and half a time, safe and sound from the Serpent. The Serpent vomited a river of water to swamp and drown her, but earth came to her help, swallowing the water the Dragon spewed from its mouth. Helpless with rage, the Dragon raged at the Woman, then went off to make war with the rest of her children, the children who keep God’s commands and hold firm to the witness of Jesus.

Revelation 12
12
The Woman, the Child, and the Dragon
1Now a great sign appeared in heaven: a woman clothed with the sun, with the moon under her feet, and on her head a garland of twelve stars. 2Then being with child, she cried out #Is. 26:17; 66:6–9; Mic. 4:9; Gal. 4:19in labor and in pain to give birth.
3And another sign appeared in heaven: behold, #Rev. 13:1; 17:3, 7, 9a great, fiery red dragon having seven heads and ten horns, and seven diadems on his heads. 4#Rev. 9:10, 19His tail drew a third #Rev. 8:7, 12of the stars of heaven #Dan. 8:10and threw them to the earth. And the dragon stood #Rev. 12:2before the woman who was ready to give birth, #Ex. 1:16; Matt. 2:16to devour her Child as soon as it was born. 5She bore a male Child #Ps. 2:9; Is. 7:14; 9:6; Rev. 2:27; 19:15who was to rule all nations with a rod of iron. And her Child was #Luke 24:51; Acts 1:9–11caught up to God and His throne. 6Then #Rev. 12:4, 14the woman fled into the wilderness, where she has a place prepared by God, that they should feed her there #Rev. 11:3; 13:5one thousand two hundred and sixty days.
Satan Thrown Out of Heaven
7And war broke out in heaven: #Dan. 10:13, 21; 12:1; Jude 9Michael and his angels fought #Rev. 20:2with the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, 8but they did not prevail, nor was a place found for them in heaven any longer. 9So #Luke 10:18; John 12:31the great dragon was cast out, #Gen. 3:1, 4; 2 Cor. 11:3; Rev. 12:15; 20:2that serpent of old, called the Devil and Satan, #Rev. 20:3who deceives the whole world; #Rev. 9:1he was cast to the earth, and his angels were cast out with him.
10Then I heard a loud voice saying in heaven, #Rev. 11:15“Now salvation, and strength, and the kingdom of our God, and the power of His Christ have come, for the accuser of our brethren, #Job 1:9, 11; 2:5; Zech. 3:1who accused them before our God day and night, has been cast down. 11And #Rom. 16:20they overcame him by the blood of the Lamb and by the word of their testimony, #Luke 14:26; (Rev. 2:10)and they did not love their lives to the death. 12Therefore #Ps. 96:11; Is. 44:23; Rev. 18:20rejoice, O heavens, and you who dwell in them! #Rev. 8:13Woe to the inhabitants of the earth and the sea! For the devil has come down to you, having great wrath, #Rev. 10:6because he knows that he has a short time.”
The Woman Persecuted
13Now when the dragon saw that he had been cast to the earth, he persecuted #Rev. 12:5the woman who gave birth to the male Child. 14#Ex. 19:4; Deut. 32:11; Is. 40:31But the woman was given two wings of a great eagle, #Rev. 12:6that she might fly #Rev. 17:3into the wilderness to her place, where she is nourished #Dan. 7:25; 12:7for a time and times and half a time, from the presence of the serpent. 15So the serpent #Is. 59:19spewed water out of his mouth like a flood after the woman, that he might cause her to be carried away by the flood. 16But the earth helped the woman, and the earth opened its mouth and swallowed up the flood which the dragon had spewed out of his mouth. 17And the dragon was enraged with the woman, and he went to make war with the rest of her offspring, who keep the commandments of God and have the testimony of Jesus Christ.
