Certainly—but only within a certain context. It’s good for a man to have a wife, and for a woman to have a husband. Sexual drives are strong, but marriage is strong enough to contain them and provide for a balanced and fulfilling sexual life in a world of sexual disorder. The marriage bed must be a place of mutuality—the husband seeking to satisfy his wife, the wife seeking to satisfy her husband. Marriage is not a place to “stand up for your rights.” Marriage is a decision to serve the other, whether in bed or out. Abstaining from sex is permissible for a period of time if you both agree to it, and if it’s for the purposes of prayer and fasting—but only for such times. Then come back together again. Satan has an ingenious way of tempting us when we least expect it. I’m not, understand, commanding these periods of abstinence—only providing my best counsel if you should choose them.

Whenever someone asks us if we believe in premarital sex we respond by saying “yes and no.” It’s a confusing answer at first, but it gives us an opportunity to make an important point. God affirms our sexuality as human beings and we can’t suddenly become asexual. For this reason, we believe in premarital sexuality. We are quick to follow up, however, by saying that having genital sex before marriage is clearly not in line with God’s principles.

Sex is a gift from God. He created marriage and sex. In the context of a marriage relationship, sex can connect a couple physically, mentally, emotionally, and spiritually. Yet, a great sex life is like everything else that makes marriage great — it takes communication, time, and effort. This 4-day plan by Dr. Kim Kimberling digs into what it takes to fully embrace God’s gift of sex.

It's almost impossible to read an article, turn on the TV, or get on the web without being bombarded by sex. The world says, “do it,” while the church is often too silent on the issue. God designed sex, so doesn’t it make sense to go to the designer and ask how we should handle it?
