Revelation 10

The Angel and the Little Scroll
1 And I saw another powerful angel descending from heaven, wrapped in a cloud, and a rainbow over his head, and his face was like the sun, and his feet were like pillars of fire,#Or “like fiery pillars” 2and holding in his hand a little scroll that was opened. And he put his right foot on the sea and his#*Literally “the”; the Greek article is used here as a possessive pronoun left on the land. 3And he cried out with a loud voice like a lion roars, and when he cried out, the seven thunders sounded#Or “spoke” their own voices. 4And when the seven thunders spoke,#Or “sounded” I was about to write, and I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Seal up the things which the seven thunders spoke, and do not write them!”
5And the angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land raised his right hand to heaven 6and swore by the one who lives forever and ever#Literally “for the ages of the ages”, who created heaven and the things in it, and the earth and the things in it, and the sea and the things in it, “There will be no more delay! 7But in the days of the sound of the seventh angel, whenever he is about to blow the trumpet, then#Literally “and” the mystery of God is completed, as he announced to his own slaves the prophets.”
8And the voice that I had heard from heaven was speaking with me again and saying, “Go, take the opened scroll in the hand of the angel who is standing on the sea and on the land.” 9And I went to the angel and told him to give me the little scroll, and he said to me, “Take and eat it up, and it will make your stomach bitter, but in your mouth it will be sweet as honey.” 10And I took the little scroll from the hand of the angel and ate it up, and it was sweet as honey in my mouth, and when I had eaten it, my stomach was made bitter. 11And they said to me, “It is necessary for you to prophesy again about many peoples and nations and languages and kings.”

The Mighty Angel with the Little Book
1I saw still another mighty angel coming down from heaven, clothed with a cloud. #Ezek. 1:26–28; Rev. 4:3And a rainbow was on #Matt. 17:2; Rev. 1:16his head, his face was like the sun, and #Rev. 1:15his feet like pillars of fire. 2He had a little book open in his hand. #Ps. 95:5; Matt. 28:18And he set his right foot on the sea and his left foot on the land, 3and cried with a loud voice, as when a lion roars. When he cried out, #Ps. 29:3–9; Rev. 4:5; 8:5seven thunders uttered their voices. 4Now when the seven thunders uttered their voices, I was about to write; but I heard a voice from heaven saying to me, #Dan. 8:26; 12:4, 9; Rev. 22:10“Seal up the things which the seven thunders uttered, and do not write them.”
5The angel whom I saw standing on the sea and on the land #Ex. 6:8; Deut. 32:40; Dan. 12:7raised up his hand to heaven 6and swore by Him who lives forever and ever, #Gen. 1:1; Ex. 20:11; Neh. 9:6; Rev. 4:11who created heaven and the things that are in it, the earth and the things that are in it, and the sea and the things that are in it, #Dan. 12:7; Rev. 16:17that there should be delay no longer, 7but #Rev. 11:15in the days of the sounding of the seventh angel, when he is about to sound, the mystery of God would be finished, as He declared to His servants the prophets.
John Eats the Little Book
8Then the voice which I heard from heaven spoke to me again and said, “Go, take the little book which is open in the hand of the angel who stands on the sea and on the earth.”
9So I went to the angel and said to him, “Give me the little book.”
And he said to me, #Jer. 15:16; Ezek. 2:8; 3:1–3“Take and eat it; and it will make your stomach bitter, but it will be as sweet as honey in your mouth.”
10Then I took the little book out of the angel’s hand and ate it, #Ezek. 3:3and it was as sweet as honey in my mouth. But when I had eaten it, #Ezek. 2:10my stomach became bitter. 11And he said to me, “You must prophesy again about many peoples, nations, tongues, and kings.”
