Psalms 3

A Call to Yahweh in Distress
A psalm of David at his fleeing from the presence of Absalom, his son.#The Hebrew Bible counts the superscription as the first verse of the psalm; the English verse number is reduced by one
1Yahweh, how many are my enemies;
many are rising against me.
2Many are saying about my soul,
“There is no deliverance for him from#Or “in” God. Selah#Meaning uncertain; probably a musical or liturgical direction
3But#Or “And” you, Yahweh, are a shield around me,
my glory and the one who lifts up my head.
4With my voice I call to Yahweh
and he answers me from his holy hill.#Literally “the hill of his holiness” Selah
5I lay down and slept;
I woke up because Yahweh sustains me.
6I am not afraid of the ten thousands of people
who all around have set themselves against me.
7Rise up, O Yahweh; deliver me, O my God;
for you strike all my enemies on the cheek.
The teeth of the wicked you break.
8To Yahweh belongs deliverance;
may your blessing be over your people. Selah

Psalm 3
A psalm of David when he ran away from his son Absalom.
1 Lord, I have so many enemies!
So many people are rising up against me!
2Many are saying about me,
“God will not save him.”
3 Lord, you are like a shield that keeps me safe.
You bring me honor. You help me win the battle.
4I call out to the Lord.
He answers me from his holy mountain.
5I lie down and sleep.
I wake up again, because the Lord takes care of me.
6I won’t be afraid even though tens of thousands
attack me on every side.
7 Lord, rise up!
My God, save me!
Strike all my enemies in the face.
Break the teeth of sinful people.
8 Lord, you are the one who saves.
May your blessing be on your people.
