Praise to Yahweh for His Faithfulness in Israel’s History
1Praise Yah.#Hebrew hallelujah Give thanks to Yahweh, for he is good,
for his loyal love is forever.
2Who can utter the mighty deeds of Yahweh,
or proclaim all his praise?
3Blessed are those who observe justice,
he who does righteousness at all times.
4Remember me, O Yahweh, when you show favor to your people.
Look after me when you deliver,
5that I may see the good done your chosen ones,
to be glad in the joy of your nation,
to glory together with your inheritance.
6We have sinned along with our ancestors.#Or “fathers”
We have committed iniquity; we have incurred guilt.
7Our ancestors#Or “fathers” in Egypt did not understand your wonderful works.
They did not remember your many acts of loyal love,
and so they rebelled by the sea at the Red Sea.#Literally “sea of reed”
8Yet he saved them for the sake of his name,
to make known his might.
9So he rebuked the Red Sea,#Literally “sea of reed” and it dried up,
and he led them through the deep as through a desert.
10Thus he saved them from the hand of the hater
and redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11But waters covered their adversaries;
not one of them survived.
12Then they believed his words;
they sang his praise.
13They quickly forgot his works;
they did not wait for his counsel.
14And they craved intensely#Literally “craved a craving” in the wilderness,
and tested God in the desert.
15So he gave to them their request,
but he sent leanness into their souls.#Hebrew “soul” or “inner self”
16And they were jealous of Moses in the camp,
and of Aaron, the holy one of Yahweh.
17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
and it covered over the gang of Abiram.
18Also fire burned in their assembly;
the flame devoured the wicked.
19They made a calf at Horeb
and bowed down to a cast image.
20And so they exchanged their glory
for an image of an ox that eats grass.
21They forgot God their Savior,
who had done great things in Egypt,
22wonders in the land of Ham,
awesome deeds by the Red Sea.#Literally “sea of reed”
23So he said he would exterminate them,
had not Moses, his chosen one,
stood in the breach before him,
to reverse his wrath from destroying them.
24Then they refused the desirable land;
they did not believe his word,
25but grumbled in their tents.
They did not obey the voice of Yahweh.
26So he made an oath#Literally “he lifted his hand,” an act accompanying an oath against them,
to make them drop in the wilderness,
27and to disperse#Or “let drop” their descendants#Literally “seed” among the nations
and to scatter them among the lands.
28They also attached themselves to Baal of Peor,
and they ate sacrifices offered to the dead.#Hebrew “sacrifices of dead”
29Thus they provoked to anger by their deeds,
and a plague broke out among them.
30Then Phinehas stood up and intervened,
and so the plague was stopped,
31and it was reckoned to him as righteousness
throughout all generations.#Literally “for a generation and a generation”
32They also angered God at the waters of Meribah,
and it went badly for Moses on account of them,
33because they rebelled against his Spirit,#A slightly different verbal form yields “they embittered his spirit”
and he spoke thoughtlessly with his lips.
34They did not exterminate the peoples,
as Yahweh had commanded them, #Hebrew “said to them”
35but they mingled with the nations
and learned their works,
36and served their idols,
which became#Hebrew “and they became” a snare to them.
37They even sacrificed their sons and daughters
to the demons,
38and they poured out innocent blood,
the blood of their sons and daughters,
whom they sacrificed to the idols of Canaan,
and so the land was defiled with the blood.#Hebrew “bloods,” that is, bloodshed
39And they became unclean by their works,
and were unfaithful in their deeds.
40So Yahweh’s anger burned against his people,
and he abhorred his inheritance.
41Then he gave them into the hand of the nations,
and those who hated them ruled over them.
42And their enemies oppressed them,
and they were subdued under their hand.
43Many times he delivered them,
but they rebelled in their counsel,
and were brought low by their iniquity.
44Yet he looked upon their distress
when he heard their cry.
45And he remembered his covenant with them,
and relented based on the abundance of his loyal love.
46And he let them find compassion#Literally “gave them to have mercies”
before all their captors.
47Save us, O Yahweh our God,
and gather us from the nations,
so that we may give thanks to your holy name
and boast in your praise.
48Blessed is Yahweh, the God of Israel,
from everlasting and to everlasting.
And let all the people say, “Amen!”
Praise Yah.#Hebrew hallelujah

Psalms 106
106
1Praise ye the LORD.
O give thanks unto the LORD; for he is good:
For his mercy endureth for ever.
2Who can utter the mighty acts of the LORD,
Or shew forth all his praise?
3Blessed are they that keep judgement,
And he that doeth righteousness at all times.
4Remember me, O LORD, with the favour that thou bearest unto thy people;
O visit me with thy salvation:
5That I may see the prosperity of thy chosen,
That I may rejoice in the gladness of thy nation,
That I may glory with thine inheritance.
6We have sinned with our fathers,
We have committed iniquity, we have done wickedly.
7Our fathers understood not thy wonders in Egypt;
They remembered not the multitude of thy mercies;
But were rebellious at the sea, even at the Red Sea.
8Nevertheless he saved them for his name's sake,
That he might make his mighty power to be known.
9He rebuked the Red Sea also, and it was dried up:
So he led them through the depths, as through a wilderness.
10And he saved them from the hand of him that hated them,
And redeemed them from the hand of the enemy.
11And the waters covered their adversaries:
There was not one of them left.
12Then believed they his words;
They sang his praise.
13They soon forgat his works;
They waited not for his counsel:
14But lusted exceedingly in the wilderness,
And tempted God in the desert.
15And he gave them their request;
But sent leanness into their soul.
16They envied Moses also in the camp,
And Aaron the saint of the LORD.
17The earth opened and swallowed up Dathan,
And covered the company of Abiram.
18And a fire was kindled in their company;
The flame burned up the wicked.
19They made a calf in Horeb,
And worshipped a molten image.
20Thus they changed their glory
For the likeness of an ox that eateth grass.
21They forgat God their saviour,
Which had done great things in Egypt;
22Wondrous works in the land of Ham,
And terrible things by the Red Sea.
23Therefore he said that he would destroy them,
Had not Moses his chosen stood before him in the breach,
To turn away his wrath, lest he should destroy them.
24Yea, they despised the pleasant land,
They believed not his word;
25But murmured in their tents,
And hearkened not unto the voice of the LORD.
26Therefore he lifted up his hand unto them,
That he would overthrow them in the wilderness:
27And that he would overthrow their seed among the nations,
And scatter them in the lands.
28They joined themselves also unto Baal-peor,
And ate the sacrifices of the dead.
29Thus they provoked him to anger with their doings;
And the plague brake in upon them.
30Then stood up Phinehas, and executed judgement:
And so the plague was stayed.
31And that was counted unto him for righteousness,
Unto all generations for evermore.
32They angered him also at the waters of Meribah,
So that it went ill with Moses for their sakes:
33Because they were rebellious against his spirit,
And he spake unadvisedly with his lips.
34They did not destroy the peoples,
As the LORD commanded them;
35But mingled themselves with the nations,
And learned their works:
36And they served their idols;
Which became a snare unto them:
37Yea, they sacrificed their sons and their daughters unto demons,
38And shed innocent blood, even the blood of their sons and of their daughters,
Whom they sacrificed unto the idols of Canaan;
And the land was polluted with blood.
39Thus were they defiled with their works,
And went a whoring in their doings.
40Therefore was the wrath of the LORD kindled against his people,
And he abhorred his inheritance.
41And he gave them into the hand of the nations;
And they that hated them ruled over them.
42Their enemies also oppressed them,
And they were brought into subjection under their hand.
43Many times did he deliver them;
But they were rebellious in their counsel,
And were brought low in their iniquity.
44Nevertheless he regarded their distress,
When he heard their cry:
45And he remembered for them his covenant,
And repented according to the multitude of his mercies.
46He made them also to be pitied
Of all those that carried them captives.
47Save us, O LORD our God,
And gather us from among the nations,
To give thanks unto thy holy name,
And to triumph in thy praise.
48Blessed be the LORD, the God or Israel,
From everlasting even to everlasting.
And let all the people say, Amen.
Praise ye the LORD.
