Israel and Judah Will Be Delivered from Their Distress
1The word that came to Jeremiah from Yahweh, saying,#Literally “to say” 2“Thus says Yahweh, the God of Israel, saying,#Literally “to say” ‘Write for yourself all the words that I have spoken to you in a scroll. 3For look, days are coming,’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh, ‘when I will restore the fortunes#Hebrew “fortune” of my people Israel and Judah,’ says Yahweh, ‘and I will bring them back to the land that I gave to their ancestors#Or “fathers” and they will take possession of it.’ ”
4Now these are the words that Yahweh spoke concerning Israel and concerning Judah. 5“For thus says Yahweh:
‘We have heard a sound of trembling,
terror, and there is no peace.
6Ask please and see whether a male can bear a child.
Why do I see every strong man
with his hands on his loins like a woman giving birth?
And why are all their faces changed to paleness?
7Alas! For that day is great,
there is none like it.#Literally “from none like it”
And it is a time of distress for Jacob,
yet from it he will be delivered.
8And it will happen on that day,’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh of hosts,
‘I will break his yoke from your neck
and your bonds I will tear to pieces.
And strangers will no longer let him work as a slave.
9But they will serve Yahweh their God,
and David their king, whom I will raise up for them.
10But you must not fear, my servant Jacob,’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh,
‘and you must not be dismayed, Israel,
for look, I am going to save you from far,
and your offspring from the land of their captivity.
And Jacob will return,
and he will be at rest,
and he will be at ease,
and there will be no one who makes him#Here the direct object is supplied from context in the English translation afraid.
11For I am with you,’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh, ‘to save you.
For I will make a complete destruction
of all the nations to which I scattered you,
but you I will not make a complete destruction.
And I will chastise you to the measure,
and I will not leave you entirely unpunished.’
12For thus says Yahweh,
‘Your injury is incurable,
your wound is overcome by sickness.
13There is no one who pleads your cause,
for your boil there is no healing for you.
14All your lovers have forgotten you,
they do not care for you.
I have struck you with the blow of an enemy,
the punishment of the cruel,
because of the greatness of your guilt,
your sins are numerous.
15Why do you cry because of your wound?
Your pain is incurable.
Because of the greatness of your guilt—your sins are vast—
I have done these things to you.
16Therefore#Literally “To thus” all those who devour you will be devoured,
and all your foes, all of them will go into captivity,
and those who plunder you will be as plunder,
and all those who plunder you I will make as plunder.
17For I will present healing to you,
and I will heal you of your wounds,’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh.
‘Because they have called you an outcast, saying,
“It is Zion, there is no one who cares for her.” ’
18Thus says Yahweh:
‘Look, I will restore the fortunes#Hebrew “fortune” of the tents of Jacob,
and I will have compassion on his dwellings,
and the city will be rebuilt upon its mound,
and the citadel fortress will stand on its rightful site.
19And thanksgiving and the sound of merrymakers
will come out from them,
and I will make them numerous,
and they will not be few.
And I will make them honored,
and they will not be lowly.
20And their children will be as of old,
and their community will be established before me.#Literally “to the face of me”
And I will punish all their oppressors.
21And their noble will be from them,
and their ruler will come out from their midst.
And I will bring him near and he will approach me.
For who is he that would pledge his heart to approach me?’ declares#Literally “a declaration of” Yahweh.
22‘And you will be to me a people,
and I will be to you God.’ ”
23Look, the storm of Yahweh!
Wrath has gone forth,
a whirling tempest.
It will whirl upon the head of the wicked.
24The burning anger of Yahweh#Literally “The blaze of the nose of Yahweh” will not turn back until his doing,
and until his accomplishing the plans of his mind.#Literally “heart”
In the last of the days you will understand it.

Jeremias (Jeremiah) 30
30
1This is the word that came to Jeremias from the Lord, saying:
2Thus saith the Lord, the God of Israel, saying: Write thee all the words that I have spoken to thee in a book.
3For, behold, the days come, saith the Lord, and I will bring again the captivity of my people Israel and Juda, saith the Lord: and I will cause them to return to the land which I gave to their fathers, and they shall possess it.
4And these are the words that the Lord hath spoken to Israel and to Juda:
5For thus saith the Lord: We have heard a voice of terror: there is fear and no peace.
6Ask ye, and see if a man bear children? Why then have I seen every man with his hands on his loins, like a woman in labour, and all faces are turned yellow?
7Alas, for that day is great: neither is there the like to it. And it is the time of tribulation to Jacob: but he shall be saved out of it.
8And it shall come to pass in that day, saith the Lord of hosts, that I will break his yoke from off thy neck and will burst his bands: and strangers shall no more rule over him.
9But they shall serve the Lord their God and David their king, whom I will raise up to them.
10Therefore, fear thou not, my servant Jacob, saith the Lord, neither be dismayed, O Israel: for, behold, I will save thee from a country afar off, and thy seed from the land of their captivity. And Jacob shall return and be at rest and abound with all good things and there shall be none whom he may fear.
11For I am with thee, saith the Lord, to save thee: for I will utterly consume all the nations among which I have scattered thee. But I will not utterly consume thee: but I will chastise thee in judgment, that thou mayst not seem to thyself innocent.
12For thus saith the Lord: Thy bruise is incurable, thy wound is very grievous.
13There is none to judge thy judgment to bind it up: thou hast no healing medicines.
14All thy lovers have forgotten thee and will not seek after thee: for I have wounded thee with the wound of an enemy, with a cruel chastisement: by reason of the multitude of thy iniquities, thy sins are hardened.
15Why criest thou for thy affliction? Thy sorrow is incurable: for the multitude of thy iniquity and for thy hardened sins, I have done these things to thee.
16Therefore all they that devour thee shall be devoured: and all thy enemies shall be carried into captivity: and they that waste thee shall be wasted and all that prey upon thee will I give for a prey.
17For I will close up thy scar and will heal thee of thy wounds, saith the Lord: because they have called thee, O Sion, an outcast: This is she that hath none to seek after her.
18Thus saith the Lord: Behold, I bring back the captivity of the pavilions of Jacob and will have pity on his houses, and the city shall be built in her high place, and the temple shall be found according to the order thereof.
19And out of them shall come forth praise and the voice of them that play: and I will multiply them, and they shall not be made few: and I will glorify them, and they shall not be lessened.
20And their children shall be as from the beginning and their assembly be permanent before me: and I will against all that afflict them.
21And their leader shall be of themselves: and their prince shall come forth from the midst of them: and I will bring him near, and he shall come to me: for who is this that setteth his heart to approach to me, saith the Lord?
22And you shall be my people: and I will be your God.
23Behold, the whirlwind of the Lord, his fury going forth, a violent storm: it shall rest upon the head of the wicked.
24The Lord will not turn away the wrath of his indignation till he have executed and performed the thought of his heart. In the latter days you shall understand these things.
