River of the Temple, Division of the Land and Its Boundaries
1And he brought me back to the doorway of the temple and, look! There was water coming out from under the threshold of the temple eastward, because the face of the temple was eastwards; and the water was coming down from under the south side of the temple, from south of the altar. 2And he brought me out by the way of the north gate and he led me around by the way leading to the outside of the outer gate#Literally “way of the outside to the gate of the outside” by way of the gate facing east, and look, there was water trickling from the south side. 3As the man went eastward a measuring line was in his hand, and he measured a thousand cubits.#Literally “in the cubit”; about 1,750 feet And he led me through on into the water; it was ankle deep.#Literally “water of ankles” 4And he measured a thousand cubits,#About 1,750 feet and he brought me over into the waters and it was knee deep.#Literally “water of knees” And he measured a thousand cubits,#About 1,750 feet and he brought me over into the waters and it was waist deep.#Literally “water of waist” 5And he measured a thousand cubits,#About 1,750 feet and it became a stream that I was not able to cross, because the water rose, waters a person could swim in,#Literally “water of swimming” and became a stream that could not be crossed. 6And he asked me, “Son of man,#Or “mortal,” or “son of humankind” did you see this?” And he made me go, and he brought me back along the bank of the stream.
7When I returned,#Literally “At my returning” then look! On the bank of the river were many trees on both sides.#Literally “from this and from this” 8And he said to me, “These waters are going out to the eastern region, and they go down to the Jordan Valley,#Literally “Arabah” and they come to the sea#Clearly refers to the Dead Sea and flow into the sea where they issue out,#Literally “being brought out/are issued out” and the waters in the sea will be healed.#Or “made fresh” 9And then every living creature with which it teems,#Or “swarms” to every place the waters come#Literally “to all of which they come there the water” it will live; and very many fish will live because these waters came there, and so the water will be healed#Or “fresh” and everything will be alive everywhere that#Literally “all that” the stream will come.#Literally “that it will come there the stream” 10And then fishers#Or “fishermen” from En Gedi and on up to En Eglaim will stand beside it, a sea-girt drying yard for nets; their fish for the dragnets will be of every kind,#Literally “to the” like the fish of the great sea,#That is, the Mediterranean and very many. 11But its marshes and its swamps will not be cured, for they were given for salt. 12And along the stream will go up on its banks from both sides#Literally “from this and from this” every tree producing food;#Literally “of food” its leaf will not wither and it will not cease producing its fruit. Every month#Literally “for its months” it will bear early fruit, for its waters are going out from the sanctuary, and its fruit will be as food, and its leaf for healing.”
13Thus says the Lord Yahweh: “This is the boundary by which you shall distribute the land for the twelve#Literally “two ten” tribes of Israel: Two shares shall be for Joseph. 14And you must take possession of it, each one a share like his brother, of this land which I swore#Literally “I raised my hand” to give it to your fathers, and so this land shall fall to you as an inheritance. 15And#Or “Bow” this is the boundary of the land: On the north side,#Literally “to the side of the north” from the great sea by the way of Hethlon until you come to Zedad,#Literally “to the arriving at Zedad” 16Hamath#Or “Lebo-Hamath to Zeded” (cf. NRSV, NJPS) to Berothath to Sibraim, which is#Or “are” between the boundary of Damascus and the boundary of Hamath, on to Hazer Hatticon, which is on the boundary of Hauran. 17And so the boundary will be from the sea#That is, the Mediterranean to Hazar Enan at the boundary of Damascus northwards and the boundary of Hamath to the north, and this is the boundary on the side of the north. 18And the eastern boundary#Literally “and the side of the east” will be between Hauran and Damascus, and from between Gilead and the land of Israel along the Jordan River from#Or “to” the boundary on the eastern sea to Tamar. And#Or “Now” this is the border on the east.#Literally “and this is the side of the east” 19And on the south side the border#Literally “and the side of the south to south” will run from Tamar up to the waters of Meribot Kadesh and along the wadi#That is, the Wadi of Egypt to the Great Sea.#That is, the Mediterranean And this is the boundary to the south.#Literally “and this is the side of south to the south” 20And on the west side#Literally “and the side of the west” the Great Sea#That is, the Mediterranean shall be the boundary up to opposite Lebo-Hamath. This is the western boundary.#Literally “this is the side of the west”
21You shall divide this land for yourselves according to the tribes of Israel. 22And then you shall allocate it as an inheritance for yourselves and for the aliens dwelling as aliens in the midst of you who have children in the midst of you, and so they shall be to you just like full citizens among the Israelites.#Literally “sons/children of Israel” With you they shall be allotted with an inheritance in the midst of the tribes of Israel. 23And then in the tribe in which an alien who is with you dwells, there you shall give his inheritance,” declares#Literally “declaration of” the Lord Yahweh.

The Healing Waters from the Temple
1 #
Zech 14.8; John 7.38; Rev 22.1. Afterward he brought me again unto the door of the house; and, behold, waters issued out from under the threshold of the house eastward: for the forefront of the house stood toward the east, and the waters came down from under, from the right side of the house, at the south side of the altar. 2Then brought he me out of the way of the gate northward, and led me about the way without unto the outer gate by the way that looketh eastward; and, behold, there ran out waters on the right side.
3And when the man that had the line in his hand went forth eastward, he measured a thousand cubits, and he brought me through the waters; the waters were to the ankles. 4Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through the waters; the waters were to the knees. Again he measured a thousand, and brought me through; the waters were to the loins. 5Afterward he measured a thousand; and it was a river that I could not pass over: for the waters were risen, waters to swim in, a river that could not be passed over. 6And he said unto me, Son of man, hast thou seen this?
Then he brought me, and caused me to return to the brink of the river. 7Now when I had returned, behold, at the bank of the river were very many trees on the one side and on the other. 8Then said he unto me, These waters issue out toward the east country, and go down into the desert, and go into the sea: which being brought forth into the sea, the waters shall be healed. 9And it shall come to pass, that every thing that liveth, which moveth, whithersoever the rivers shall come, shall live: and there shall be a very great multitude of fish, because these waters shall come thither: for they shall be healed; and every thing shall live whither the river cometh. 10And it shall come to pass, that the fishers shall stand upon it from En–ge´di even unto En–eg´la-im; they shall be a place to spread forth nets; their fish shall be according to their kinds, as the fish of the great sea, exceeding many. 11But the miry places thereof and the marshes thereof shall not be healed; they shall be given to salt. 12And by the river upon the bank thereof, on this side and on that side, shall grow all trees for meat, whose leaf shall not fade, neither shall the fruit thereof be consumed: it shall bring forth new fruit according to his months, because their waters they issued out of the sanctuary: and the fruit thereof shall be for meat, and the leaf thereof for medicine.
The Borders and Divisions of the Land
13Thus saith the Lord God; This shall be the border, whereby ye shall inherit the land according to the twelve tribes of Israel: Joseph shall have two portions. 14And ye shall inherit it, one as well as another: concerning the which I lifted up mine hand to give it unto your fathers: and this land shall fall unto you for inheritance.
15And this shall be the border of the land toward the north side, from the great sea, the way of Hethlon, as men go to Zedad; 16Hamath, Ber´othah, Sibra´im, which is between the border of Damascus and the border of Hamath: Ha´zar–hat´ticon, which is by the coast of Hau´ran. 17And the border from the sea shall be Ha´zar–e´nan, the border of Damascus, and the north northward, and the border of Hamath. And this is the north side.
18And the east side ye shall measure from Hau´ran, and from Damascus, and from Gil´e-ad, and from the land of Israel by Jordan, from the border unto the east sea. And this is the east side.
19And the south side southward, from Tamar even to the waters of strife in Kadesh, the river to the great sea. And this is the south side southward.
20The west side also shall be the great sea from the border, till a man come over against Hamath. This is the west side.
21So shall ye divide this land unto you according to the tribes of Israel. 22And it shall come to pass, that ye shall divide it by lot for an inheritance unto you, and to the strangers that sojourn among you, which shall beget children among you: and they shall be unto you as born in the country among the children of Israel; they shall have inheritance with you among the tribes of Israel. 23And it shall come to pass, that in what tribe the stranger sojourneth, there shall ye give him his inheritance, saith the Lord God.
