Jerusalem a Useless Vine
1And the word of Yahweh came#Literally “was” to me, saying,#Literally “to say” 2“Son of man, how will the wood of the vine be better than#Literally “more than” any of the wood of#Literally “all of the wood of” the branch which is among the trees of the forest?#Or “wood” 3Can wood be taken from it to make anything, or can they take a tent peg from it to hang on it any object?#Or “vessel” 4Look! It is given to the fire as fuel. The fire will consume two of its ends, and its middle will be charred. Is it useful for anything? 5Look! When it is in perfect condition,#Literally “In being it perfect” it will not be used for anything, how much less#Literally “indeed” when the fire has consumed it#Literally “for if fire has consumed it” and it is charred; and then can it be used again for anything? 6Therefore thus says the Lord Yahweh: Just like#Literally “As that” the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest#Or “wood” which I gave to the fire for fuel, so I have given the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 7And I will set my face against them. From the fire they mayescape,#Literally “go out” but the fire will yet consume them, and they will know that I am Yahweh when I set my face against them.#Literally “in to set me my face against them” 8And I will make the land a desolation because they acted very unfaithfully!”#Literally “they displayed infidelity” declares#Literally “declaration of” the Lord Yahweh.

Ezekiel 15
15
1And the word of Jehovah came unto me, saying, 2Son of man, what is the wood of the vine more than any wood, the vine-branch, which is among the trees of the forest? 3Shall wood be taken thereof to do any work? or will men take a pin of it to hang any vessel thereon? 4Behold, it is given to the fire for fuel: the fire consumeth both the ends of it, and the midst of it is burned; is it fit for any work? 5Behold, when it was whole, it was used for no work; how much less when the fire hath consumed it, and it is burned, should it yet be used for any work? 6Therefore thus saith the Lord Jehovah: As the wood of the vine among the trees of the forest, which I have given to the fire for fuel, so will I give the inhabitants of Jerusalem. 7And I will set my face against them: they shall go forth from one fire, and another fire shall devour them; and ye shall know that I am Jehovah when I set my face against them. 8And I will make the land a desolation, because they have wrought unfaithfulness, saith the Lord Jehovah.
