Psalms 2
2
1Why have nations tumultuously assembled? And do peoples meditate vanity?
2Station themselves do kings of the earth, And princes have been united together, Against Jehovah, and against His Messiah:
3‘Let us draw off Their cords, And cast from us Their thick bands.’
4He who is sitting in the heavens doth laugh, The Lord doth mock at them.
5Then doth He speak unto them in His anger, And in His wrath He doth trouble them:
6‘And I — I have anointed My King, Upon Zion — My holy hill.’
7I declare concerning a statute: Jehovah said unto me, ‘My Son Thou [art], I to-day have brought thee forth.
8Ask of Me and I give nations — thy inheritance, And thy possession — the ends of earth.
9Thou dost rule them with a sceptre of iron, As a vessel of a potter Thou dost crush them.’
10And now, O kings, act wisely, Be instructed, O judges of earth,
11Serve ye Jehovah with fear, And rejoice with trembling.
12Kiss the Chosen One, lest He be angry, And ye lose the way, When His anger burneth but a little, O the happiness of all trusting in Him!

Psalms 2
2
1Why are the nations so angry?
Why are the people making such foolish plans?
2Their kings and leaders join together
to fight against the Lord and his chosen king.#2:2 his chosen king Or “his anointed one.”
3They say, “Let’s rebel against them.
Let’s break free from them!”
4But the one who rules in heaven laughs at them.
The Lord makes fun of them.
5He speaks to them in anger,
and it fills them with fear.
6He says, “I have chosen this man to be king,
and he will rule on Zion, my holy mountain.”
7Let me tell you about the Lord’s agreement:
He said to me, “Today I have become your father,#2:7 I have become your father Literally, “I fathered you.” Originally, this probably meant God was “adopting” the king as his son.
and you are my son.
8If you ask, I will give you the nations.
Everyone on earth will be yours.
9You will rule over them with great power.
You will scatter your enemies like broken pieces of pottery!”
10So, kings and rulers, be smart
and learn this lesson.
11Serve the Lord with fear and trembling.
12Show that you are loyal to his son,#2:12 Show … his son Literally, “Kiss the son.”
or the Lord will be angry and destroy you.
He is almost angry enough to do that now,
but those who go to him for protection will be blessed.
