2 Timothy 2
2
1Thou, therefore, my child, be strong in the grace that [is] in Christ Jesus,
2and the things that thou didst hear from me through many witnesses, these things be committing to stedfast men, who shall be sufficient also others to teach;
3thou, therefore, suffer evil as a good soldier of Jesus Christ;
4no one serving as a soldier did entangle himself with the affairs of life, that him who did enlist him he may please;
5and if also any one may strive, he is not crowned, except he may strive lawfully;
6the labouring husbandman it behoveth first of the fruits to partake;
7be considering what things I say, for the Lord give to thee understanding in all things.
8Remember Jesus Christ, raised out of the dead, of the seed of David, according to my good news,
9in which I suffer evil — unto bonds, as an evil-doer, but the word of God hath not been bound;
10because of this all things do I endure, because of the choice ones, that they also salvation may obtain that [is] in Christ Jesus, with glory age-during.
11Stedfast [is] the word: For if we died together — we also shall live together;
12if we do endure together — we shall also reign together; if we deny [him], he also shall deny us;
13if we are not stedfast, he remaineth stedfast; to deny himself he is not able.
14These things remind [them] of, testifying fully before the Lord — not to strive about words to nothing profitable, but to the subversion of those hearing;
15be diligent to present thyself approved to God — a workman irreproachable, rightly dividing the word of the truth;
16and the profane vain talkings stand aloof from, for to more impiety they will advance,
17and their word as a gangrene will have pasture, of whom is Hymenaeus and Philetus,
18who concerning the truth did swerve, saying the rising again to have already been, and do overthrow the faith of some;
19sure, nevertheless, hath the foundation of God stood, having this seal, ‘The Lord hath known those who are His,’ and ‘Let him depart from unrighteousness — every one who is naming the name of Christ.’
20And in a great house there are not only vessels of gold and of silver, but also of wood and of earth, and some to honour, and some to dishonour:
21if, then, any one may cleanse himself from these, he shall be a vessel to honour, sanctified and profitable to the master — to every good work having been prepared,
22and the youthful lusts flee thou, and pursue righteousness, faith, love, peace, with those calling upon the Lord out of a pure heart;
23and the foolish and uninstructed questions be avoiding, having known that they beget strife,
24and a servant of the Lord it behoveth not to strive, but to be gentle unto all, apt to teach, patient under evil,
25in meekness instructing those opposing — if perhaps God may give to them repentance to an acknowledging of the truth,
26and they may awake out of the devil's snare, having been caught by him at his will.

2 Timothy 2

A Good Soldier of Christ Jesus
1Timothy, my child, you must let Christ Jesus make you strong by his gift of undeserved grace. 2You have often heard me teach. Now I want you to tell these same things to followers who can be trusted to tell others.
3As a good soldier of Christ Jesus you must endure your share of suffering. 4Soldiers on duty don't work at outside jobs. They try only to please their commanding officer. 5No one wins an athletic contest without obeying the rules. 6And farmers who work hard are the first to eat what grows in their field. 7If you keep in mind what I have told you, the Lord will help you understand completely.
8Keep your mind on Jesus Christ! He was from the family of David and was raised from death, just as my good news says. 9And because of this message, I am locked up in jail and treated like a criminal. But God's good news isn't locked in jail, 10and so I am willing to put up with anything. Then God's special people will be saved and given eternal glory because they belong to Christ Jesus. 11Here is a true message:
“If we died with Christ,
we will live with him.
12 #
Mt 10.33; Lk 12.9. If we don't give up,
we will rule with him.
If we deny
that we know him,
he will deny
that he knows us.
13If we are not faithful,
he will still be faithful.
Christ cannot deny
who he is.”
An Approved Worker
14Don't let anyone forget these things. And with God#2.14 God: Some manuscripts have “the Lord,” and others have “Christ.” as your witness, you must warn them not to argue about words. These arguments don't help anyone. In fact, they ruin everyone who listens to them. 15Do your best to win God's approval as a worker who doesn't need to be ashamed and who teaches only the true message.
16Keep away from worthless and useless talk. It only leads people farther away from God. 17That sort of talk is like a sore that won't heal. And Hymenaeus and Philetus have been talking this way 18by teaching that the dead have already been raised to life. This is far from the truth, and it is destroying the faith of some people.
19But the foundation God has laid is solid. On it is written, “The Lord knows who his people are. So everyone who worships the Lord must turn away from evil.”
20In a large house some dishes are made of gold or silver, while others are made of wood or clay. Some of these are special, and others are not. 21This is also how it is with people. The ones who stop doing evil and make themselves pure will become special. Their lives will be holy and pleasing to their Master, and they will be able to do all kinds of good deeds.
22Run from temptations that capture young people. Always do the right thing. Be faithful, loving, and easy to get along with. Worship with people whose hearts are pure. 23Stay away from stupid and senseless arguments. These only lead to trouble, 24and God's servants must not be troublemakers. They must be kind to everyone, and they must be good teachers and very patient.
25Be humble when you correct people who oppose you. Maybe God will lead them to turn to him and learn the truth. 26They have been trapped by the devil, and he makes them obey him, but God may help them escape.
