The Lord’s Triumph and Reign
1A day of the Lord is coming # Is 39:6; Jr 7:32; Am 9:13 when your plunder will be divided in your presence. 2I will gather all the nations against Jerusalem for battle. # Jl 3:2; Zch 12:2-3 The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people will not be removed from the city.
3Then the Lord will go out to fight against those nations as He fights on a day of battle. # Rv 19:11-21 4On that day His feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, # Ezk 11:23; Mt 24:3; Ac 1:11-12 which faces Jerusalem on the east. The Mount of Olives will be split in half from east to west, forming a huge valley, so that half the mountain will move to the north and half to the south. 5You will flee by My mountain valley, # Some Hb mss, LXX, Sym, Tg read You will be blocked — the valley of My mountains — for the valley of the mountains will extend to Azal. You will flee as you fled # LXX reads It will be blocked as it was blocked from the earthquake in the days of Uzziah king of Judah. # Am 1:1 Then the Lord my God will come and all the holy ones # Dt 33:2-3; Ps 89:5,7; Dn 7:21; Jd 14 with Him. # Some Hb mss, LXX, Vg, Tg, Syr; other Hb mss read you # Ps 89:5-7; Mt 25:31
6On that day there will be no light; the sunlight and moonlight # Lit light; the precious things will diminish. # LXX, Sym, Syr, Tg, Vg read no light or cold or ice # Is 13:10; Jl 2:10; 3:15 7It will be a day known only to Yahweh, # Mt 24:36 without day or night, but there will be light at evening.
8On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, # Ezk 41:7; 47:1-12; Jl 3:18; Rv 8:8-9; 16:3 half of it toward the eastern sea # = the Dead Sea and the other half toward the western sea, # = the Mediterranean Sea in summer and winter alike. 9On that day Yahweh will become King over all the earth # Mt 25:31 — Yahweh alone, and His name alone. # Dt 4:35,39; 6:4; Is 45:5 10All the land from Geba # 2Kg 23:8 to Rimmon # Neh 11:29 south of Jerusalem will be changed into a plain. But Jerusalem will be raised up and will remain # Or will be inhabited on its site from the Benjamin Gate # Jr 37:13 to the place of the First Gate, # Or the former gate to the Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the royal winepresses. # Neh 3:1; 12:39; Jr 31:38-40 11People will live there, and never again will there be a curse of complete destruction. So Jerusalem will dwell in security.
12This will be the plague the Lord strikes all the peoples with, who have warred against Jerusalem: their flesh will rot while they stand on their feet, their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths. 13On that day a great panic from the Lord will be among them, so that each will seize the hand of another, and the hand of one will rise against the other. 14Judah will also fight at Jerusalem, and the wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected: gold, silver, and clothing in great abundance. # Mc 4:13; Hg 2:7 15The same plague as the previous one will strike # Lit be on the horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all the animals that are in those camps.
16Then all the survivors from the nations that came against Jerusalem will go up year after year to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, and to celebrate the Festival of Booths. # Lv 23:33-36 17Should any of the families of the earth not go up to Jerusalem to worship the King, the Lord of Hosts, rain will not fall on them. 18And if the people # Lit family of Egypt will not go up and enter, then rain will not fall on them; this will be the plague the Lord inflicts on the nations who do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths. 19This will be the punishment of Egypt and all the nations that do not go up to celebrate the Festival of Booths.
20On that day, the words
HOLY TO THE LORD
will be on the bells of the horses. # Ex 28:36; 39:30 The pots in the house of the Lord will be like the sprinkling basins before the altar. 21Every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the Lord of Hosts. Everyone who sacrifices will come and take some of the pots to cook in. And on that day there will no longer be a Canaanite # Or merchant in the house of the Lord of Hosts.

The LORD Will Fight the Nations
1A day is going to come for the Lord when the loot you have taken will be divided among you. 2I will gather all the nations to Jerusalem for battle. The city will be captured, the houses looted, and the women raped. Half of the people in the city will go into exile, but the rest of the people won’t be taken from the city.
3Then the Lord will go out and fight against those nations as he does when he fights a battle. 4On that day his feet will stand on the Mount of Olives, just east of Jerusalem. The Mount of Olives will be split in two, forming a very large valley from east to west. Half of the mountain will move toward the north, and the other half will move toward the south. 5Then you will flee to the valley of my mountains, because this valley between the mountains will go as far as Azel. You will flee as you did from the earthquake at the time of King Uzziah of Judah. The Lord my God will come, and all the holy ones will be with him.
6On that day there will be neither heat nor freezing cold. 7There will be one day—a day known to the Lord—with no difference between day and night. It will be light even in the evening.
Living Water from Jerusalem
8On that day living water will flow out from Jerusalem, half of it to the Dead Sea and the other half to the Mediterranean Sea. It will continue in summer and in winter.
9The Lord will be king over all the earth. On that day the Lord will be the only Lord and his name the only name.
10The whole earth will become like the plains from Geba to Rimmon, south of Jerusalem. Jerusalem will rise and remain on its site, from Benjamin Gate to the place of First Gate, Corner Gate, and from the Tower of Hananel to the king’s winepresses. 11People will live there, and it will never be threatened with destruction. Jerusalem will live securely.
12This will be the plague the Lord will use to strike all the people from the nations that have gone to war against Jerusalem. Their flesh will rot while they are standing on their feet. Their eyes will rot in their sockets, and their tongues will rot in their mouths.
13On that day a large-scale panic from the Lord will spread among them. One person will grab the hand of another, and one will attack the other. 14Judah will also fight in Jerusalem. The wealth of all the surrounding nations will be collected, a very large amount of gold, silver, and clothes. 15A similar plague will also affect horses, mules, camels, donkeys, and all other animals in those camps.
16Everyone who is left from all the nations that attacked Jerusalem will come every year to worship the king, the Lord of Armies, and to celebrate the Festival of Booths. 17If any of the families on the earth won’t go to Jerusalem to worship the king, the Lord of Armies, then rain won’t fall on them. 18If the people of Egypt won’t go or enter Jerusalem, then ⌞rain won’t fall⌟ on them. The plague the Lord uses to strike the nations will affect those who won’t come to celebrate the Festival of Booths. 19This will be ⌞the punishment⌟ for Egypt’s sin and for the sin of all the nations that won’t go to celebrate the Festival of Booths.
20On that day “Holy to the Lord” will be written on the bells of the horses. And the cooking pots in the house of the Lord will be like the bowls in front of the altar. 21Yes, every pot in Jerusalem and in Judah will be holy to the Lord of Armies. All who come to sacrifice will take some of them and cook in them. On that day there will no longer be any Canaanite #14:21 Or “merchant.” in the house of the Lord of Armies.
