Sound Teaching and Christian Living
1But you must say the things that are consistent with sound teaching. # Ti 1:9 2Older men # 1Tm 5:1 are to be level headed, worthy of respect, sensible, and sound in faith, love, # 1Co 13:1; 1Jn 4:16 and endurance. 3In the same way, older women # 1Tm 5:2 are to be reverent in behavior, not slanderers, not addicted to much wine. They are to teach what is good, 4so they may encourage the young women to love their husbands and to love their children, 5to be self-controlled, pure, homemakers, kind, and submissive # Lk 10:17; Eph 5:22 to their husbands, so that God’s message # Lk 8:21; 2Tm 2:15; Heb 4:12 will not be slandered.
6In the same way, encourage the young men # 1Tm 5:1; 1Pt 5:5; 1Jn 2:13-14 to be self-controlled 7in everything. Make yourself an example of good works with integrity and dignity # Other mss add incorruptibility in your teaching. 8Your message is to be sound beyond reproach, # 1Tm 2:2 so that the opponent will be ashamed, having nothing bad to say about us.
9Slaves are to be submissive to their masters # Eph 6:5-9; Col 3:22; 1Tm 6:1; 1Pt 2:18; Jd 4 in everything, and to be well-pleasing, # Heb 13:21 not talking back 10or stealing, but demonstrating utter faithfulness, so that they may adorn the teaching of God our Savior # 1Tm 1:1; 2:3; Ti 1:3; 3:4; Jd 25 in everything.
11For the grace of God has appeared with salvation # Or appeared, bringing salvation ; or appeared with saving power for all people, # Ac 1:8; Rm 10:14; 2Co 5:18-21; 1Tm 2:4; 4:10; 2Pt 3:9 12instructing us to deny godlessness # Jd 18 and worldly lusts # 2Tm 4:10; 2Pt 1:4; 2:10 and to live in a sensible, righteous, # Lk 23:41; 1Co 15:34; 1Th 2:10; 1Pt 2:24 and godly # 2Tm 3:12 way in the present age, 13while we wait for the blessed hope # Ac 23:6; 1Th 1:3 and appearing of the glory # Lk 9:32; Jn 17:1,24; 2Co 3:18; 2Pt 3:18 of our great God and Savior, Jesus Christ. 14He gave Himself for us # Mt 20:28; Mk 10:45; Rm 8:32; Gl 1:4; 2:20; Eph 5:2,25; 1Tm 2:6 to redeem us from all lawlessness and to cleanse for Himself a people for His own possession, # Ex 19:5; Lk 1:68 eager to do good works.
15Say these things, and encourage and rebuke with all authority. Let no one disregard # Or despise you.

Instructions for church people
Instructions for different groups of people
1Titus, you must teach only what is correct. 2Tell the older men to have self-control and to be serious and sensible. Their faith, love, and patience must never fail.
3Tell the older women to behave as those who love the Lord should. They must not gossip about others or be slaves of wine. They must teach what is proper, 4so the younger women will be loving wives and mothers. 5Each of the younger women must be sensible and kind, as well as a good homemaker, who puts her own husband first. Then no one can say insulting things about God's message.
6Tell the young men to have self-control in everything.
7Always set a good example for others. Be sincere and serious when you teach. 8Use clean language that no one can criticize. Do this, and your enemies will be too ashamed to say anything against you.
9Tell slaves always to please their owners by obeying them in everything. Slaves must not talk back to their owners 10or steal from them. They must be completely honest and trustworthy. Then everyone will show great respect for what is taught about God our Saviour.
God's kindness and the new life
11God has shown us how kind he is by coming to save all people. 12He taught us to give up our wicked ways and our worldly desires and to live decent and honest lives in this world. 13We are filled with hope, as we wait for the glorious return of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ.#2.13 the glorious return of our great God and Saviour Jesus Christ: Or “the glorious return of our great God and our Saviour Jesus Christ” or “the return of Jesus Christ, who is the glory of our great God and Saviour.” 14He gave himself to rescue us from everything that is evil and to make our hearts pure. He wanted us to be his own people and to be eager to do right.#Ps 130.8; Ex 19.5; Dt 4.20; 7.6; 14.2; 1 P 2.9.
15Teach these things, as you use your full authority to encourage and correct people. Make sure you earn everyone's respect.
