The New Creation
1Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, # Is 65:17; 66:22; 2Pt 3:13 for the first heaven and the first earth had passed away, # Lk 21:33; 1Co 7:31; 2Pt 3:10 and the sea no longer existed. # Is 57:20; Rv 13:1,6-7 2I also saw the Holy City, # Neh 11:1; Is 48:2; 52:1; Dn 9:24; Mt 4:5; 27:53; Rv 11:2; 22:19 new Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, # Gl 4:26; Php 3:20; Heb 11:10; 12:22; 13:14; Rv 3:12 prepared like a bride adorned for her husband. # Is 61:10; Rv 19:7
3Then I heard a loud voice # Dt 5:22; Ezk 9:1; Mt 27:46,50; Jn 11:43; Rv 1:10; 11:12; 16:1 from the throne: # Mt 19:28 # Other mss read from heaven
Look! God’s dwelling # Or tent, or tabernacle is with humanity,
and He will live with them.
They will be His people, # Lv 26:11-12; Jr 7:23; 30:22; 31:33; Ezk 37:27; Hs 2:23; Zch 8:8
and God Himself will be with them
and be their God. # Other mss omit and be their God
4He will wipe away every tear from their eyes. # Is 25:8 30:19; 35:10; 51:11; 65:19; Rv 7:16-17
Death will no longer exist; # Hs 13:14; 1Co 15:54
grief, crying, and pain will exist no longer, # Is 60:20
because the previous things # Or the first things have passed away. # Is 42:9; 2Co 5:17
5Then the One seated on the throne said, “Look! I am making everything new.” He also said, “Write, because these words # Other mss add of God are faithful and true.” # Rv 3:14; 19:11; 22:6 6And He said to me, “It is done! # Rv 16:17 I am the Alpha and the Omega, # Rv 1:8; 22:13 the Beginning and the End. # Is 44:6; 48:12 I will give water as a gift to the thirsty # Ps 42:1-2; Is 41:17; 44:3; 55:1; Jn 4:14; 7:37 from the spring of life. # Ps 36:9; Jr 2:13; Jn 4:14 7The victor # Rv 2:7 will inherit these things, and I will be his God, and he will be My son. # 2Sm 7:14 8But the cowards, unbelievers, # Other mss add the sinful vile, murderers, sexually immoral, sorcerers, idolaters, and all liars # Rm 1:28-32; 1Co 6:9-10; Rv 22:15 — their share will be in the lake that burns with fire and sulfur, # Rv 19:20 which is the second death.” # Rv 20:6
The New Jerusalem
9Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, # Rv 16:1 came and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.” 10He then carried me away in the Spirit # Or in spirit # Rv 1:10; 4:2; 17:3 to a great and high mountain # Ezk 40:2 and showed me the holy city, Jerusalem, coming down out of heaven from God, 11arrayed with God’s glory. # Is 60:1-2 Her radiance was like a very precious stone, like a jasper stone, bright as crystal. 12The city had a massive high wall, with 12 gates. Twelve angels were at the gates; the names of the 12 tribes of Israel’s sons were inscribed on the gates. 13There were three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west. # Ezk 48:30-34 14The city wall had 12 foundations, and the 12 names of the Lamb’s 12 apostles were on the foundations.
15The one who spoke with me had a gold measuring rod # Rv 11:1 to measure the city, its gates, and its wall. # Ezk 40:3 16The city is laid out in a square; its length and width are the same. He measured the city with the rod at 12,000 stadia. # A stadion (sg) = about 600 feet; 12,000 stadia = 1,400 miles. Its length, width, and height are equal. 17Then he measured its wall, 144 cubits according to human measurement, which the angel used. 18The building material of its wall was jasper, and the city was pure gold like clear glass.
19The foundations of the city wall were adorned with every kind of precious stone: # Ex 28:15-21; Is 54:11
the first foundation jasper,
the second sapphire,
the third chalcedony,
the fourth emerald,
20the fifth sardonyx,
the sixth carnelian,
the seventh chrysolite,
the eighth beryl,
the ninth topaz,
the tenth chrysoprase,
the eleventh jacinth,
the twelfth amethyst.
21The 12 gates are 12 pearls; each individual gate was made of a single pearl. The broad street # Or The public square of the city was pure gold, like transparent glass.
22I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. 23The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. # Is 24:23; 30:26; 60:19-20; Zch 14:6-7; Rv 22:5 24The nations # Other mss add of those who are saved will walk in its light, # Is 42:6; 49:6; 60:3,5 and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it. # Other mss read will bring to Him the nations’ glory and honor # Is 49:7,23; 60:10 25Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. # Neh 7:3 26They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it. # Other mss add in order that they might go in # Is 60:11 27Nothing profane will ever enter it: # Is 35:8; 52:1 no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life. # Rv 3:5; 13:8; 17:8; 20:12,15

21
1And I saw a renewed heaven and a renewed earth,#Isa. 65:17#See also Isa. 66:22 for the former heaven and the former earth had passed away, and the sea is no more.
2And I, Yoḥanan, saw the set-apart city, renewed Yerushalayim, coming down out of the heaven from Elohim, prepared as a bride adorned for her husband.
3And I heard a loud voice from the heaven saying, “See, the Booth of Elohim is with men, and He shall dwell with them, and they shall be His people, and Elohim Himself shall be with them and be their Elohim.#Lev. 26:11, 12#See also Isa. 7:14; Isa. 8:8; Isa. 8:10; Jer. 31:33; Ezek. 37:27; 2Ch. 6:18
4“And Elohim shall wipe away every tear from their eyes, and there shall be no more death, nor mourning, nor crying. And there shall be no more pain, for the former matters have passed away.”
5And He who was sitting on the throne said, “See, I make all matters new.” And He said to me, “Write, for these words are true and trustworthy.”
6And He said to me, “It is done! I am the ‘Aleph’ and the ‘Taw’, the Beginning and the End. To the one who thirsts I shall give of the fountain of the water of life without payment.
7“The one who overcomes shall inherit all this, and I shall be his Elohim and he shall be My son.
8“But as for the cowardly, and untrustworthy, and abominable, and murderers, and those who whore, and drug sorcerers, and idolaters, and all the false, their part is in the lake which burns with fire and sulphur, which is the second death.”
9And one of the seven messengers who held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues came to me and spoke with me, saying, “Come, I shall show you the bride, the Lamb’s wife.”
10And he carried me away in the Spirit to a great and high mountain, and showed me the great city, the set-apart Yerushalayim, descending out of the heaven from Elohim,
11having the esteem of Elohim, and her light was like a most precious stone, like a jasper stone, clear as crystal,
12and having a great and high wall, having twelve gates, and at the gates twelve messengers, and names written on them, which are those of the twelve tribes of the children of Yisra’ĕl:#See Ezek. 47:22, 23; Ezek. 48:31-34
13three gates on the east, three gates on the north, three gates on the south, and three gates on the west.
14And the wall of the city had twelve foundations, and on them were the names of the twelve emissaries of the Lamb.
15And he who spoke with me had a golden measuring rod, to measure the city, and its gates, and its wall.
16And the city lies four-cornered, and its length is as great as its breadth. And he measured the city with the rod: twelve thousand stadia#Approx. 2216 kilometres or 1377 miles. – the length, and the breadth, and height of it are equal.
17And he measured its wall: hundred and forty-four forearms,#Approx. 66 metres or 216 feet. according to the measure of a man, that is, of a messenger.
18And the structure of its wall was jasper. And the city was clean gold, like clear glass.
19And the foundations of the wall of the city were adorned with all kinds of precious stones: the first foundation jasper, the second sapphire, the third agate, the fourth emerald,
20the fifth sardonyx, the sixth ruby, the seventh chrysolite, the eighth beryl, the ninth topaz, the tenth chrysoprase, the eleventh jacinth, and the twelfth amethyst.
21And the twelve gates were twelve pearls – each one of the gates was a single pearl. And the street of the city was clean gold, like transparent glass.
22And I saw no Dwelling Place in it, for יהוה Ěl Shaddai is its Dwelling Place, and the Lamb.
23And the city had no need of the sun, nor of the moon, to shine in it, for the esteem of Elohim lightened it, and the Lamb is its lamp.
24And the nations, of those who are saved, shall walk in its light,#See Isa. 60:3 and the sovereigns of the earth bring their esteem into it.
25And its gates shall not be shut at all by day, for night shall not be there.
26And they shall bring the esteem and the appreciation of the nations into it.
27And there shall by no means enter into it whatever is unclean, neither anyone doing abomination and falsehood,#See Rev. 22:15 and 2Thes. 2:11 but only those who are written in the Lamb’s Book of Life.#Dan. 12:1
