The Lamb and the 144,000
1Then I looked, and there on Mount Zion stood the Lamb, # Is 18:7; 24:23; Mc 4:7 and with Him were 144,000 who had His name and His Father’s name written on their foreheads. # Dt 6:8; Ezk 9:4; Rv3:12; 7:3; 9:4; 13:16; 22:4 2I heard a sound # Or voice from heaven like the sound of cascading waters # Ezk 1:24; 43:2; Rv 1:15; 19:6 and like the rumbling of loud thunder. The sound I heard was also like harpists playing on their harps. # Rv 5:8 3They sang # Other mss add as it were a new song # Rv 5:9 before the throne and before the four living creatures and the elders, # Rv 4:4,6 but no one could learn the song except the 144,000 who had been redeemed # Or purchased from the earth. 4These are the ones not defiled with women, for they have kept their virginity. # 1Sm 21:4-5 These are the ones who follow the Lamb wherever He goes. They were redeemed # Other mss add by Jesus # Or purchased from the human race as the firstfruits # Dt 21:17; Jr 2:3; Jms 1:18 for God and the Lamb. 5No lie was found in their mouths; they are blameless. # Zph 3:13; Jn 1:47
The Proclamation of Three Angels
6Then I saw another angel # Rv 7:2; 8:3; 14:15,17-18; 18:1 flying high overhead, # Rv 8:13 having the eternal gospel to announce to the inhabitants of the earth — to every nation, tribe, language, and people. # Rv 5:9; 7:9; 11:9; 13:7 7He spoke with a loud voice: # Rv 1:10; 8:13; 10:3 “Fear God # Gn 22:12; 42:18; Ps 66:16; Ec 5:7; 12:13; Ac 13:16,26; 1Pt 2:17 and give Him glory, # Jos 7:19; 1Sm 6:5; Jr 13:16; Lk 17:18; Rv 4:9; 16:9; 19:7 because the hour of His judgment has come. # Rv 18:10 Worship the Maker of heaven and earth, # Ps 115:15; 121:2; 124:8; 134:3; 146:6 the sea and springs of water.”
8A second angel # Lit Another angel, a second followed, saying: “It has fallen, Babylon the Great # Dn 4:30; Rv 16:19; 17:5; 18:2 has fallen, # Other mss omit the second has fallen who made all nations drink the wine of her sexual immorality, # Or wine of her passionate immorality which brings wrath.” # Is 21:9; Jr 51:7-8,49; Rv 17:2,4; 18:2-3
9And a third angel # Lit Another angel, a third followed them and spoke with a loud voice: “If anyone worships the beast and his image and receives a mark on his forehead or on his hand, 10he will also drink the wine of God’s wrath, which is mixed full strength in the cup of His anger. # Ps 75:8; Is 51:17; Jr 25:15-17 Rv 17:2,4; 18:2-3 He will be tormented with fire and sulfur # Lk 17:29; Rv 20:10; 21:8 in the sight of the holy angels and in the sight of the Lamb, 11and the smoke of their torment will go up forever and ever. # Is 1:31; 34:10; 66:24; Rv 19:3 There is no rest # Lit They have no rest # Ps 22:2; Is 23:12; 62:6; Jr 45:3; Lm 2:18 day or night for those who worship the beast and his image, or anyone who receives the mark # Gn 4:15; Ex 12:13; Ezk 9:4,6; Rv 13:16; 16:2; 19:20 of his name. 12This demands the perseverance # Lit Here is the perseverance of the saints, # Rv 13:10 who keep God’s commands and their faith in Jesus.” # Or and faith in Jesus, or and faithfulness to Jesus
13Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write: The dead who die in the Lord from now on are blessed.” # Rv 1:3; 16:15; 19:9; 20:6; 22:7,14
“Yes,” says the Spirit, “let them rest from their labors, for their works follow them! ”
Reaping the Earth’s Harvest
14Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and One like the Son of Man # Or like a son of man # Dn 7:13; Lk 21:27; Rv 1:13 was seated on the cloud, with a gold crown on His head and a sharp sickle in His hand. 15Another angel came out of the sanctuary, crying out in a loud voice to the One who was seated on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap, for the time to reap has come, since the harvest of the earth is ripe.” # Jl 3:13 16So the One seated on the cloud swung His sickle over the earth, and the earth was harvested.
17Then another angel who also had a sharp sickle came out of the sanctuary in heaven. 18Yet another angel, who had authority over fire, came from the altar, and he called with a loud voice to the one who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sharp sickle and gather the clusters of grapes from earth’s vineyard, because its grapes have ripened.” 19So the angel swung his sickle toward earth and gathered the grapes from earth’s vineyard, and he threw them into the great winepress of God’s wrath. # Rv 16:19; 19:15 20Then the press was trampled outside the city, and blood flowed out of the press up to the horses’ bridles for about 180 miles. # Lit 1,600 stadia # Is 63:1-6

The Lamb and his People
1 #
Ezek 9.4; Rev 7.3 Then I looked, and there was the Lamb standing on Mount Zion; with him were 144,000 people who have his name and his Father's name written on their foreheads. 2And I heard a voice from heaven that sounded like a roaring waterfall, like a loud peal of thunder. It sounded like the music made by musicians playing their harps. 3The 144,000 people stood before the throne, the four living creatures, and the elders; they were singing a new song, which only they could learn. They are the only ones who have been redeemed. 4They are the men who have kept themselves pure by not having sexual relations with women; they are virgins. They follow the Lamb wherever he goes. They have been redeemed from the rest of the human race and are the first ones to be offered to God and to the Lamb. 5#Zeph 3.13They have never been known to tell lies; they are faultless.
The Three Angels
6Then I saw another angel flying high in the air, with an eternal message of Good News to announce to the peoples of the earth, to every race, tribe, language, and nation. 7He said in a loud voice, “Honour God and praise his greatness! For the time has come for him to judge. Worship him who made heaven, earth, sea, and the springs of water!”
8 #
Is 21.9; Jer 51.8; Rev 18.2 A second angel followed the first one, saying, “She has fallen! Great Babylon has fallen! She made all peoples drink her wine — the strong wine of her immoral lust!”
9A third angel followed the first two, saying in a loud voice, “Whoever worships the beast and its image and receives the mark on their forehead or on their hand 10#Is 51.17; Gen 19.24; Ezek 38.22will themselves drink God's wine, the wine of his fury, which he has poured at full strength into the cup of his anger! All who do this will be tormented in fire and sulphur before the holy angels and the Lamb. 11#Is 34.10The smoke of the fire that torments them goes up for ever and ever. There is no relief day or night for those who worship the beast and its image, for anyone who has the mark of its name.”
12This calls for endurance on the part of God's people, those who obey God's commandments and are faithful to Jesus.
13Then I heard a voice from heaven saying, “Write this: happy are those who from now on die in the service of the Lord!”
“Yes indeed!” answers the Spirit. “They will enjoy rest from their hard work, because the results of their service go with them.”
The Harvest of the Earth
14 #
Dan 7.13
Then I looked, and there was a white cloud, and sitting on the cloud was what looked like a human being, with a crown of gold on his head and a sharp sickle in his hand. 15#Joel 3.13Then another angel came out from the temple and cried out in a loud voice to the one who was sitting on the cloud, “Use your sickle and reap the harvest, because the time has come; the earth is ripe for the harvest!” 16Then the one who sat on the cloud swung his sickle on the earth, and the earth's harvest was reaped.
17Then I saw another angel come out of the temple in heaven, and he also had a sharp sickle.
18Then another angel, who is in charge of the fire, came from the altar. He shouted in a loud voice to the angel who had the sharp sickle, “Use your sickle, and cut the grapes from the vineyard of the earth, because the grapes are ripe!” 19So the angel swung his sickle on the earth, cut the grapes from the vine, and threw them into the winepress of God's furious anger. 20#Is 63.3; Lam 1.15; Rev 19.15The grapes were squeezed out in the winepress outside the city, and blood came out of the winepress in a flood 300 kilometres long and nearly two metres deep.
