are like yesterday that passes by,
like a few hours of the night. # 2Pt 3:8
5You end their lives; # Or You overwhelm them ; Hb obscure they sleep. # Jb 14:12
They are like grass that grows in the morning —
6in the morning it sprouts and grows;
by evening it withers and dries up. # Jb 14:1-2; Ps 37:2; 103:15-16
7For we are consumed by Your anger;
we are terrified by Your wrath. # Ps 39:11
8You have set our unjust ways before You,
our secret sins in the light of Your presence. # Ps 19:12; Ec 12:14
9For all our days ebb away under Your wrath;
we end our years like a sigh. # Ps 78:33
10Our lives last # Lit The days of our years in them seventy years
or, if we are strong, eighty years.
Even the best of them are # LXX, Tg, Syr, Vg read Even their span is ; Hb obscure struggle and sorrow;
indeed, they pass quickly and we fly away. # Jb 20:8; Ps 78:39
11Who understands the power of Your anger?
Your wrath matches the fear that is due You. # Ps 76:7
12Teach us to number our days carefully
so that we may develop wisdom in our hearts. # Or develop a heart of wisdom # Dt 32:29; Ps 39:4
13Lord — how long?
Turn and have compassion on Your servants. # Dt 32:36; Ps 135:14
14Satisfy us in the morning with Your faithful love
so that we may shout with joy and be glad all our days. # Ps 36:8; 65:4; 103:5
15Make us rejoice for as many days as You have humbled us,
for as many years as we have seen adversity. # Ps 86:4; 92:4

and Your splendor by their children. # Ps 96:6; Is 35:2
17Let the favor of the Lord our God be on us;
establish for us the work of our hands —
establish the work of our hands! # Ps 27:4; Is 26:12

From Everlasting to Everlasting

1Lord, you have been our #See Ps. 71:3dwelling place#90:1 Some Hebrew manuscripts (compare Septuagint) our refuge
in all generations.

Prov. 8:25 Before the #[Deut. 33:15; Job 15:7] mountains were brought forth,
or ever you had formed the earth and the world,
# See Job 36:26 from everlasting to everlasting you are God.
3You return man to dust
and say, #Gen. 3:19 “Return, #Eccles. 12:7O children of man!”#90:3 Or of Adam
4For #2 Pet. 3:8 a thousand years in your sight
are but as #[Ps. 39:5] yesterday when it is past,
or as #Ex. 14:24; Judg. 7:19a watch in the night.
5You #Ps. 58:9 sweep them away as with a flood; they are like #See Job 20:8 a dream,
like #Ps. 37:2; 103:15; 2 Kgs. 19:26; Isa. 40:6-8; 1 Pet. 1:24grass that is renewed in the morning:
6in #See Job 4:20 the morning it flourishes and is renewed;
in the evening it #Job 14:2; [Ps. 92:7] fades and #James 1:11withers.
7For we are brought to an end by your anger;
by your wrath we are dismayed.
8You have #Jer. 16:17; Heb. 4:13 set our iniquities before you,
our #Ps. 19:12secret sins in the light of your presence.
9For all our days pass away under your wrath;
we bring our years to an end like a sigh.
10The years of our life are seventy,
or even by reason of strength eighty;
yet their span#90:10 Or pride is but toil and trouble;
they are soon gone, and we fly away.
11Who considers the power of your anger,
and your wrath according to the fear of you?

14Satisfy us in the #See Ps. 46:5 morning with your steadfast love,
that we may #See Ps. 85:6rejoice and be glad all our days.
15Make us glad for as many days as you have #[Deut. 8:2]afflicted us,
and for as many years as we have seen evil.
16Let your #Ps. 77:12; 92:4; 95:9; Deut. 32:4; Hab. 3:2work be shown to your servants,
and your glorious power to their children.
17Let the #Ps. 27:4 favor#90:17 Or beauty of the Lord our God be upon us,
