Daniel 12
12
1At that time
Michael # Dn 10:13,21; Jd 9; Rv 12:7 the great prince
who stands watch over your people will rise up.
There will be a time of distress # Mt 24:21; Mk 13:19
such as never has occurred # Jr 30:7; Ezk 5:9; Dn 9:12
since nations came into being until that time. # Rv 16:18
But at that time all your people
who are found written in the book # Dn 7:10; 10:21; Rv 20:12 will escape. # Php 4:3; Rv 20:12; 21:27
2Many of those who sleep in the dust # Is 26:19; Ezk 37:12-14
of the earth will awake,
some to eternal life, # Mt 25:46; Jn 5:28-29
and some to shame and eternal contempt. # Is 66:24
3Those who are wise will shine
like the bright expanse of the heavens, # Gn 1:6; Ps 19:1; Jn 5:35
and those who lead many to righteousness, # Is 53:11; Dn 11:33
like the stars forever and ever.
4“But you, Daniel, keep these words secret # Dn 8:26; 12:9; Rv 10:4 and seal the book # Is 8:16; Jr 32:9-12; Rv 22:10 until the time of the end. # Dn 8:17; 12:9,13 Many will roam about, # 2Ch 16:9; Jr 5:1; Am 8:12 and knowledge will increase.” # LXX reads and the earth will be filled with unrighteousness
5Then I, Daniel, looked, and two others were standing there, one on this bank of the river and one on the other. 6One of them said to the man dressed in linen, # Ezk 9:2; Dn 10:5 who was above the waters of the river, # Dn 8:16 “How long until the end # Dn 8:13; Mt 24:3; Mk 13:4 of these extraordinary things? ” 7Then I heard the man dressed in linen, who was above the waters of the river. He raised both his hands # Lit raised his right and his left # Ezk 20:5; Rv 10:5-6 toward heaven and swore by Him who lives eternally # Dn 4:34 that it would be for a time, times, and half a time. # Dn 7:25; Rv 11:2; 12:14 When the power of the holy people is shattered, all these things will be completed.
8I heard but did not understand. So I asked, “My lord, what will be the outcome of these things? ” # 1Th 5:10; 2Pt 3:10-14
9He said, “Go on your way, Daniel, for the words are secret # Rv 10:4 and sealed until the time of the end. # Dn 12:4 10Many will be purified, # Zch 13:9; Ac 1:6-7; 2Th 2:7-12 cleansed, and refined, # Dn 11:35 but the wicked will act wickedly; # Is 32:6-7; Rv 22:11 none of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand. # Dn 12:3; Hs 14:9; Jn 7:17; 8:47 11From the time the daily sacrifice is abolished and the abomination of desolation # Dn 9:27 is set up, # Dn 11:31; Mt 24:15; Mk 13:14 there will be 1,290 days. 12The one who waits # Is 30:18 for and reaches 1,335 days is blessed. 13But as for you, go on your way to the end; # LXX omits to the end you will rest, then rise # Is 57:2; Rv 14:13 to your destiny at the end of the days.”

Daniel 12
12
1“At that time Michael the great prince, the protector of your people, will stand up and there will be a time of trouble like never before, since nations first existed. But at that time your people will be saved, all whose names are written in the book. 2Millions#12:2. “Millions”: the usual translation of “many” seems inappropriate here. It really signifies “a great number” which in modern-day idiom would be “millions.” sleeping in the ground in death will awake, some to eternal life, and some to eternal shame and disgrace. 3Those who are wise will shine as bright as the sky; those who have shown many the right way to live will shine as bright as the stars forever and ever.
4But as for you, Daniel, keep this message secret, and seal the book closed until the time of the end. Many will search this way and that way,#12:4. Theodotion in his Greek translation renders this as “peruse carefully,” which would then mean that the increase in knowledge would refer to an increased understanding of the prophecy. and knowledge will grow greater and greater.”
5Then I, Daniel, noticed two others, each standing on opposite sides of the river. 6One of them asked the man dressed in linen#12:6. See 10:4. who was above the river's waters, “How long before these outrageous things#12:6. See 11:36. come to an end?” 7The man dressed in linen, who was above the river's waters, lifted both hands to heaven and made a solemn promise by the One who lives eternally. I heard him say, “It will last for a time, times, and half a time. When the scattering#12:7. “Scattering”: or, “shattering.” of the power of the holy people has come to an end, then all these things will also come to an end.”
8I heard the answer, but I didn't understand it. So I asked, “My lord, what's the final result of all this?”
9“Daniel, you can go on your way now,” he replied, “for this message is secret and kept sealed until the time of the end.
10Many will be purified and cleansed and refined,#12:10. See 11:35. but the wicked will go on being wicked. None of the wicked will understand, but the wise will understand. 11From the time the continual ministry is stopped#12:11. See 8:11, 11:31. in order to set up the idolatry that causes devastation#12:11. See 9:27, 11:31. will be one thousand two hundred and ninety days. 12Blessed are those who patiently wait for and reach the one thousand three hundred and thirty-five days.
13But as for you, go your way until your life ends, and then rest. You will rise to receive your reward at the end of time.”
