Difficult Times Ahead
1But know this: Difficult times will come in the last days. # Jn 6:39; Php 1:6; 1Pt 1:5; 2Pt 3:3; Jd 18 2For people will be lovers of self, # Php 2:21; 1Tm 6:4 lovers of money, # Lk 16:14; 1Tm 3:3; 6:10 boastful, proud, # Pr 16:18; Lk 1:51; Rm 1:30 blasphemers, disobedient to parents, ungrateful, unholy, # 1Tm 1:9 3unloving, irreconcilable, slanderers, # Jn 14:6 without self-control, brutal, without love for what is good, # Ti 1:8 4traitors, # Lk 6:16; Ac 7:52 reckless, # Ac 19:36 conceited, # 1Tm 3:6; 6:4 lovers of pleasure # Php 3:19 rather than lovers of God, 5holding to the form of godliness but denying its power. # 1Co 4:20; 2Co 13:4; Ti 1:16 Avoid these people! # Mt 7:15; 2Th 3:6
6For among them are those who worm their way into households and capture idle women burdened down with sins, led along by a variety of passions, # 2Pt 1:4; 2:10 7always learning and never able to come to a knowledge of the truth. # 2Co 11:10; 1Tm 2:4; 2Tm 2:25; Ti 1:1 8Just as Jannes and Jambres # Ex 7:11-12; 8:18; 9:11 resisted Moses, # Ps 77:20; Mt 8:4; Heb 3:2 so these also resist the truth, men who are corrupt in mind, # 1Co 14:14; Php 4:7 worthless # 2Co 13:5-7 in regard to the faith. 9But they will not make further progress, for their lack of understanding will be clear to all, as theirs # = Jannes and Jambres was also.
Struggles in the Christian Life
10But you have followed my teaching, conduct, purpose, # Pr 19:21; Ac 11:23 faith, patience, love, # 1Co 13:1; 1Jn 4:16 and endurance, 11along with the persecutions and sufferings # Gl 5:24; Php 3:10 that came to me in Antioch, # Ac 13:14; 14:19,21 Iconium, # Ac 13:51; 16:2 and Lystra. # Ac 14:6,8; 27:5 What persecutions I endured! Yet the Lord rescued me from them all. 12In fact, all those who want to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will be persecuted. # Jn 15:20; Ac 14:22; 2Co 4:9-10 13Evil people and impostors will become worse, deceiving # Rv 20:10 and being deceived. 14But as for you, continue in what you have learned and firmly believed. You know those who taught you, # 2Tm 1:13 15and you know that from childhood you have known the sacred Scriptures, # Mt 26:54; 2Pt 1:20-21 which are able to give you wisdom for salvation # Ac 4:12; 2Co 7:10; Heb 5:9 through faith in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is inspired by God # Lit breathed out by God ; the Scripture is the product of God’s Spirit working through men; 2Pt 1:20-21. # 2Pt 1:20-21 and is profitable for teaching, for rebuking, for correcting, for training in righteousness, 17so that the man of God may be complete, equipped for every good work. # 2Co 9:8; Gl 3:10; 1Tm 5:10; 2Tm 2:21

2 Timothy 3

The Dangers of the Last Days
1You should know this, Timothy, that in the last days there will be very difficult times. 2For people will love only themselves and their money. They will be boastful and proud, scoffing at God, disobedient to their parents, and ungrateful. They will consider nothing sacred. 3They will be unloving and unforgiving; they will slander others and have no self-control. They will be cruel and hate what is good. 4They will betray their friends, be reckless, be puffed up with pride, and love pleasure rather than God. 5They will act religious, but they will reject the power that could make them godly. Stay away from people like that!
6They are the kind who work their way into people’s homes and win the confidence of#3:6 Greek and take captive. vulnerable women who are burdened with the guilt of sin and controlled by various desires. 7(Such women are forever following new teachings, but they are never able to understand the truth.) 8These teachers oppose the truth just as Jannes and Jambres opposed Moses. They have depraved minds and a counterfeit faith. 9But they won’t get away with this for long. Someday everyone will recognize what fools they are, just as with Jannes and Jambres.
Paul’s Charge to Timothy
10But you, Timothy, certainly know what I teach, and how I live, and what my purpose in life is. You know my faith, my patience, my love, and my endurance. 11You know how much persecution and suffering I have endured. You know all about how I was persecuted in Antioch, Iconium, and Lystra—but the Lord rescued me from all of it. 12Yes, and everyone who wants to live a godly life in Christ Jesus will suffer persecution. 13But evil people and impostors will flourish. They will deceive others and will themselves be deceived.
14But you must remain faithful to the things you have been taught. You know they are true, for you know you can trust those who taught you. 15You have been taught the holy Scriptures from childhood, and they have given you the wisdom to receive the salvation that comes by trusting in Christ Jesus. 16All Scripture is inspired by God and is useful to teach us what is true and to make us realize what is wrong in our lives. It corrects us when we are wrong and teaches us to do what is right. 17God uses it to prepare and equip his people to do every good work.
