Psalms 77

Psalm 77
For the choir director; according to Jeduthun; a psalm by Asaph.
1Loudly, I cried to God.
Loudly, I cried to God
so that he would open his ears to ⌞hear⌟ me.
2On the day I was in trouble, I went to the Lord for help.
At night I stretched out my hands in prayer without growing tired.
Yet, my soul refused to be comforted.
3I sigh as I remember God.
I begin to lose hope as I think about him. Selah
4(You keep my eyelids open.)
I am so upset that I cannot speak.
5I have considered the days of old,
the years long ago.
6I remember my song in the night
and reflect ⌞on it⌟.
My spirit searches ⌞for an answer⌟:
7Will the Lord reject ⌞me⌟ for all time?
Will he ever accept me?
8Has his mercy come to an end forever?
Has his promise been canceled throughout every generation?
9Has God forgotten to be merciful?
Has he locked up his compassion because of his anger? Selah
10Then I said, “It makes me feel sick
that the power of the Most High is no longer the same.”
11I will remember the deeds of the Lord.
I will remember your ancient miracles.
12I will reflect on all your actions
and think about what you have done.
13O God, your ways are holy!
What god is as great as our God?
14You are the God who performs miracles.
You have made your strength known among the nations.
15With your might you have defended your people,
the descendants of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16The water saw you, O God.
The water saw you and shook.
Even the depths of the sea trembled.
17The clouds poured out water.
The sky thundered.
Even your arrows flashed in every direction.
18The sound of your thunder rumbled in the sky.
Streaks of lightning lit up the world.
The earth trembled and shook.
19Your road went through the sea.
Your path went through raging water,
but your footprints could not be seen.
20Like a shepherd, you led your people.
You had Moses and Aaron take them by the hand.

Psalms 77
77
For the Music Director. To Jeduthun. A Psalm of Asaph.
1I cried out to God with my voice,
even to God with my voice; and He listened to me.
2#Ps 63:1; 84:2 In the day of my trouble I sought the Lord;
in the night my hand is stretched out and does not weary,
my soul refuses to be comforted.
3#Ps 79:10; 80:5 I remember God, and I groan;
I complain, and my spirit is overwhelmed. Selah
4#Isa 30:29; Ps 62:8 You hold my eyelids open;
I am so troubled that I cannot speak.
5#Ps 42:11; 43:5 I have considered the days of old,
the years long ago.
6#2Sa 17:22; Dt 3:8–9 May I remember my song in the night;
may I meditate in my heart;
my spirit made a diligent search:
7#Ps 88:7; Jnh 2:3 “Will the Lord cast off forever,
and will He be favorable no more?
8#Job 35:10; Ps 63:6 Has His mercy ceased forever,
and have His promises failed for all time?
9#Ps 38:6; 18:2 Has God forgotten to be gracious,
and has He in anger shut up His tender mercies?” Selah
10#Ps 42:3; Joel 2:17 Then I said, “This is my grief;
yet I will remember the years of the right hand of the Most High.”
11#Ps 42:5; 43:5 I will remember the works of the Lord;
surely I will remember Your wonders of old.
12I will meditate also on all Your work
and ponder on Your mighty deeds.
13Your way, O God, is holiness;
what god is as great as our God?
14You are the God who can do wonders;
You have declared Your strength among the nations.
15You have with Your arm redeemed Your people,
the children of Jacob and Joseph. Selah
16The waters saw You, O God.
The waters saw You; they were afraid;
the depths also trembled.
17The clouds poured out water;
the skies thundered.
Your arrows flashed about.
18The sound of Your thunder was in the whirlwind,
and Your lightning lit up the world;
the earth trembled and shook.
19Your way is through the sea,
and Your path in the great waters,
and your footsteps are not seen.
20You led Your people like a flock
by the hand of Moses and Aaron.
