Psalm 7
A shiggaion #7:0 Unknown musical term. by David; he sang it to the Lord about the ⌞slanderous⌟ words of Cush, a descendant of Benjamin.
1O Lord my God, I have taken refuge in you.
Save me, and rescue me from all who are pursuing me.
2Like a lion they will tear me to pieces
and drag me off with no one to rescue me.
3O Lord my God,
if I have done this—
if my hands are stained with injustice,
4if I have paid back my friend with evil
or rescued someone who has no reason to attack me—
5then let the enemy chase me and catch me.
Let him trample my life into the ground.
Let him lay my honor in the dust. Selah
6Arise in anger, O Lord.
Stand up against the fury of my attackers.
Wake up, my God.#7:6 Greek; Masoretic Text “Wake up to me.”
You have already pronounced judgment.
7Let an assembly of people gather around you.
Take your seat high above them.
8The Lord judges the people of the world.
Judge me, O Lord,
according to my righteousness,
according to my integrity.
9Let the evil within wicked people come to an end,
but make the righteous person secure,
O righteous God who examines thoughts and emotions.
10My shield is God above,
who saves those whose motives are decent.
11God is a fair judge,
a God who is angered by injustice every day.
12If a person does not change, God sharpens his sword.
By bending his bow, he makes it ready ⌞to shoot⌟.
13He prepares his deadly weapons
and turns them into flaming arrows.
14See how that person conceives evil,
is pregnant with harm,
and gives birth to lies.
15He digs a pit and shovels it out.
Then he falls into the hole that he made ⌞for others⌟.
16His mischief lands back on his own head.
His violence comes down on top of him.
17I will give thanks to the Lord for his righteousness.
I will make music to praise the name of the Lord Most High.

Psalms 7
7
A psalm (shiggaion) of David, which he sang to the Lord concerning Cush, from the tribe of Benjamin.
1Lord my God, you are my protection. Save me from those who persecute me; please rescue me!
2Otherwise they will tear me apart like a lion, ripping me to pieces with no one to save me.
3If I have done what I'm accused of,#7:3. “Done what I'm accused of”: literally, “done this.” if my hands are guilty,
4If I have paid back a friend with evil, if I have robbed my enemy for no reason,
5Then let my enemies chase me down; let them trample me in the dust and drag my reputation through the dirt. Selah.
6Stand up, Lord, in your anger, rise up against the fury of my enemies; wake up, Lord, and bring me justice!#7:6. The psalmist is using imagery that is very human to describe God. Telling God to wake up is surely not meant to be taken literally, but a plea for God to act. Similarly the appeal for God's anger to be directed against the fury of his enemies reflects a desire to be vindicated, not a description of the nature of God.
7Bring together the nations before you; rule them from your throne on high.
8The Lord judges all people. Defend me, Lord, because I do what is right, because of my integrity.
9Please bring an end to the evil done by the wicked; vindicate those who do good, for you are the God of right who examines hearts and minds.
10The Most High God is my defense, the one who saves those who live right.
11God is a fair judge who is always hostile to evil.
12If people do not change their minds, he will sharpen his sword. He has bent and strung his bow.
13He has prepared weapons of death, he has his flaming arrows ready.
14See how the wicked conceive evil! They are pregnant with trouble. They give birth to dishonesty.
15They dig a deep hole to catch people, but then fall into it themselves.
16The trouble they cause rebounds to hit them on the head; their violence against others comes down on their own skulls.
17I will thank the Lord because he does what is right; I will sing praises to the name of the Lord Most High.
