Psalms 64

Psalm 64
For the choir director; a psalm by David.
1Hear my voice, O God, when I complain.
Protect my life from a terrifying enemy.
2Hide me from the secret plots of criminals,
from the mob of troublemakers.
3They sharpen their tongues like swords.
They aim bitter words like arrows
4to shoot at innocent people from their hiding places.
They shoot at them suddenly, without any fear.
5They encourage one another in their evil plans.
They talk about setting traps and say,
“Who can see them?”
6They search for the perfect crime and say,
“We have perfected a foolproof scheme!”
Human nature and the human heart are a mystery!
7But God will shoot them with an arrow.
Suddenly, they will be struck dead.
8They will trip over their own tongues.
Everyone who sees them will shake his head.
9Everyone will be afraid and conclude,
“This is an act of God!”
They will learn from what he has done.
10Righteous people will find joy in the Lord and take refuge in him.
Everyone whose motives are decent will be able to brag.

Psalms 64
64
To the choirmaster. A Psalm of David.
1Hear my voice, O God, in my complaint;
preserve my life from dread of the enemy,
2hide me from the secret plots of the wicked,
from the scheming of evildoers,
3who whet their tongues like swords,
who aim bitter words like arrows,
4shooting from ambush at the blameless,
shooting at him suddenly and without fear.
5They hold fast to their evil purpose;
they talk of laying snares secretly,
thinking, “Who can see us?#64.5 Syr: Heb them
6Who can search out our crimes?#64.6 Cn: Heb they search out crimes
We have thought out a cunningly conceived plot.”
For the inward mind and heart of a man are deep!
7But God will shoot his arrow at them;
they will be wounded suddenly.
8Because of their tongue he will bring them to ruin;#64.8 Cn: Heb They will bring him to ruin, their tongue being against them
all who see them will wag their heads.
9Then all men will fear;
they will tell what God has wrought,
and ponder what he has done.
10Let the righteous rejoice in the Lord,
and take refuge in him!
Let all the upright in heart glory!
