Psalm 56
For the choir director; according to yonath elem rechokim; #56:0 Unknown musical term. a miktam by David when the Philistines captured him in Gath.
1Have pity on me, O God, because people are harassing me.
All day long warriors oppress me.
2All day long my enemies spy on me.
They harass me.
There are so many fighting against me.
3Even when I am afraid, I still trust you.
4I praise God’s word.
I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mere flesh ⌞and blood⌟ do to me?
5All day long my enemies twist my words.
Their every thought is an evil plan against me.
6They attack, and then they hide.
They watch my every step as they wait to take my life.
7With the wrong they do, can they escape?
O God, angrily make the nations fall.
8(You have kept a record of my wanderings.
Put my tears in your bottle.
They are already in your book.)
9Then my enemies will retreat when I call ⌞to you⌟.
This I know: God is on my side.
10I praise God’s word.
I praise the Lord’s word.
11I trust God.
I am not afraid.
What can mortals do to me?
12I am bound by my vows to you, O God.
I will keep my vows by offering songs of thanksgiving to you.
13You have rescued me from death.
You have kept my feet from stumbling
so that I could walk in your presence, in the light of life.

Psalms 56
56
To the Overseer. — ‘On the Dumb Dove far off.’ — A secret treasure of David, in the Philistines' taking hold of him in Gath.
1Favour me, O God, for man swallowed me up, All the day fighting he oppresseth me,
2Mine enemies have swallowed up all the day, For many [are] fighting against me, O most High,
3The day I am afraid I am confident toward Thee.
4In God I praise His word, in God I have trusted, I fear not what flesh doth to me.
5All the day they wrest my words, Concerning me all their thoughts [are] for evil,
6They assemble, they hide, they watch my heels, When they have expected my soul.
7By iniquity they escape, In anger the peoples put down, O God.
8My wandering Thou hast counted, Thou — place Thou my tear in Thy bottle, Are they not in Thy book?
9Then turn back do mine enemies in the day I call. This I have known, that God [is] for me.
10In God I praise the word, In Jehovah I praise the word.
11In God I trusted, I fear not what man doth to me,
12On me, O God, [are] Thy vows, I repay thank-offerings to Thee.
13For Thou hast delivered my soul from death, Dost Thou not my feet from falling? To walk habitually before God in the light of the living!
