Psalms 27
27
Psalm 27
By David.
1The Lord is my light and my salvation.
Who is there to fear?
The Lord is my life’s fortress.
Who is there to be afraid of?
2Evildoers closed in on me to tear me to pieces.
My opponents and enemies stumbled and fell.
3Even though an army sets up camp against me,
my heart will not be afraid.
Even though a war breaks out against me,
I will still have confidence ⌞in the Lord⌟.
4I have asked one thing from the Lord.
This I will seek:
to remain in the Lord’s house all the days of my life
in order to gaze at the Lord’s beauty
and to search for an answer in his temple.
5He hides me in his shelter when there is trouble.
He keeps me hidden in his tent.
He sets me high on a rock.
6Now my head will be raised above my enemies who surround me.
I will offer sacrifices with shouts of joy in his tent.
I will sing and make music to praise the Lord.
7Hear, O Lord, when I cry aloud.
Have pity on me, and answer me.
8 ⌞When you said,⌟
“Seek my face,”
my heart said to you,
“O Lord, I will seek your face.” #27:8 Greek “My heart said to you, ‘I have sought your face. O LORD, I will seek your face.’ ”
9Do not hide your face from me.
Do not angrily turn me away.
You have been my help.
Do not leave me!
Do not abandon me, O God, my savior!
10Even if my father and mother abandon me, the Lord will take care of me.
11Teach me your way, O Lord.
Lead me on a level path
because I have enemies who spy on me.
12Do not surrender me to the will of my opponents.
False witnesses have risen against me.
They breathe out violence.
13I believe that I will see the goodness of the Lord
in this world of the living.
14Wait with hope for the Lord.
Be strong, and let your heart be courageous.
Yes, wait with hope for the Lord.

Psalms 27
27
A psalm of David.
1The Lord is my light and my salvation! How could anyone scare me? The Lord is my life's fortress! How could anyone terrify me?
2When evil people come at me to tear me apart, it's my enemies, those who are against me, they're the ones who trip and fall.
3Even if an army surrounds me, I won't be frightened. Even if I am attacked, I will still trust in God.
4I only ask the Lord for one thing: I just want to live in the house of the Lord throughout my life, contemplating the Lord's goodness and thinking about his Temple.
5When troubles come he will protect me and keep me safe, hiding me in his house,#27:5. “House”: literally, “tent.” Also verse 6. as secure as if he'd placed me on a high rock.
6He will hold my head high over my enemies who are all around me. I shall offer sacrifices in his house with shouts of joy, and I will sing praises to the Lord.
7Listen to me, Lord, when I call for help. Be gracious and answer me.
8You told me, “Come to me.” I am coming to you, Lord.#27:8. Or “I told myself, ‘I will go to the Lord.’ Lord, I am coming to you.”
9Don't refuse to talk to me. Don't be angry with your servant and turn away. You are the one who helps me, so please don't reject me and abandon me, God of my salvation.
10Even if my father and my mother abandon me, the Lord will take care of me.
11Lord, teach me your way and lead me along the right path, because my enemies are against me#27:11 “Are against me”: implied.—
12don't hand me over to them and their evil intentions, for they are making false accusations against me and threatening me with violence.
13However, I'm absolutely sure that I will see the Lord's goodness even in this life.
14Trust in the Lord! Be confident—he will give you courage! Trust in the Lord!
