Psalms 17

Psalm 17
A prayer by David.
1Hear my plea for justice, O Lord.
Pay attention to my cry.
Open your ears to my prayer,
⌞which comes⌟ from lips free from deceit.
2Let the verdict of my innocence come directly from you.
Let your eyes observe what is fair.
3You have probed my heart.
You have confronted me at night.
You have tested me like silver,
but you found nothing wrong.
I have determined that my mouth will not sin.
4I have avoided cruelty because of your word.
In spite of what others have done,
5my steps have remained firmly in your paths.
My feet have not slipped.
6I have called on you because you answer me, O God.
Turn your ear toward me.
Hear what I have to say.
7Reveal your miraculous deeds of mercy,
O Savior of those who find refuge by your side
from those who attack them.
8Guard me as if I were the pupil in your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
9Hide me from wicked people who violently attack me,
from my deadly enemies who surround me.
10They have shut out all feeling.
Their mouths have spoken arrogantly.
11They have tracked me down.
They have surrounded me.
They have focused their attention on throwing me to the ground.
12Each one of them is like a lion eager to tear ⌞its prey⌟ apart
and like a young lion crouching in hiding places.
13Arise, O Lord; confront them!
Bring them to their knees!
With your sword rescue my life from wicked people.
14With your power rescue me from mortals, O Lord,
from mortals who enjoy their inheritance only in this life.
You fill their bellies with your treasure.
Their children are satisfied ⌞with it⌟,
and they leave what remains to their children.
15I will see your face when I am declared innocent.
When I wake up, I will be satisfied ⌞with seeing⌟ you.

(Tefillah of Dovid)
1Hear the tzedek (righteous plea of a just cause), Hashem, attend unto my cry, give ear unto my tefillah, that goeth not out of lips of mirmah (deceit).
2Let my mishpat (right) come forth from Thy presence; let Thine eyes behold the things that are right.
3Thou hast probed mine lev; Thou hast visited me in the lailah; Thou hast tested me and shalt find nothing; I am purposed that my mouth shall not transgress.
4Concerning the works of men, by the Devar of Thy lips I have kept myself from the paths of the cruel.
5Uphold my goings in Thy paths, that my footsteps stumble not.
6I have called upon Thee, for Thou wilt hear me, O El; incline Thine ear unto me, and hear my prayer.
7Show Thy marvellous chesed, O Thou Moshi'a Who saves by Thy right hand them which put their trust in Thee from those that rise up against them.
8Be shomer over me as the apple of Thy eye; hide me in the shadow of Thy wings,
9From the resha'im that oppress me, from my deadly enemies threatening my nefesh, who surround me.
10They have closed up callously and mercilessly against me; with their mouth they speak with ge'ut (pride).
11At every step they have surrounded me; their purpose is to strike down to ha'aretz;
12Like aryeh eager to tear his prey, and like a young lion lurking in ambush.
13Arise, Hashem, confront him, cast him down; deliver my nefesh from the resha with Thy cherev;
14From men with Thy yad, Hashem, from men of the world, whose portion is in this life, and with Thy treasures Thou fillest their belly; they are satisfied with children, and leave their abundance to their babes.
15As for me, in tzedek I will behold Thy face; I shall be satisfied, when I awake, with Thy temunah (form).#17:15 See Num 12:8
