Psalms 17

Psalm 17
A prayer by David.
1Hear my plea for justice, O Lord.
Pay attention to my cry.
Open your ears to my prayer,
⌞which comes⌟ from lips free from deceit.
2Let the verdict of my innocence come directly from you.
Let your eyes observe what is fair.
3You have probed my heart.
You have confronted me at night.
You have tested me like silver,
but you found nothing wrong.
I have determined that my mouth will not sin.
4I have avoided cruelty because of your word.
In spite of what others have done,
5my steps have remained firmly in your paths.
My feet have not slipped.
6I have called on you because you answer me, O God.
Turn your ear toward me.
Hear what I have to say.
7Reveal your miraculous deeds of mercy,
O Savior of those who find refuge by your side
from those who attack them.
8Guard me as if I were the pupil in your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
9Hide me from wicked people who violently attack me,
from my deadly enemies who surround me.
10They have shut out all feeling.
Their mouths have spoken arrogantly.
11They have tracked me down.
They have surrounded me.
They have focused their attention on throwing me to the ground.
12Each one of them is like a lion eager to tear ⌞its prey⌟ apart
and like a young lion crouching in hiding places.
13Arise, O Lord; confront them!
Bring them to their knees!
With your sword rescue my life from wicked people.
14With your power rescue me from mortals, O Lord,
from mortals who enjoy their inheritance only in this life.
You fill their bellies with your treasure.
Their children are satisfied ⌞with it⌟,
and they leave what remains to their children.
15I will see your face when I am declared innocent.
When I wake up, I will be satisfied ⌞with seeing⌟ you.

A prayer of David.#Psalm 17 A prayer of David Or “A prayer dedicated to David.”
1Lord, hear my prayer for justice.
I am calling loudly to you.
I am being honest in what I say,
so please listen to my prayer.
2You will make the right decision,
because you can see the truth.
3You were with me all night
and looked deep into my heart.
You questioned me and found that
I did not say or do anything wrong.
4Unlike most people, I have obeyed your commands,
so I have never been like those who are cruel and evil.
5I have followed your way.
My feet never left your path.
6Every time I call to you, God, you answer me.
So listen to me now, and hear what I say.
7Show your amazing kindness
and rescue those who depend on you.
Use your great power
and protect them from their enemies.
8Protect me like the pupil#17:8 pupil The center of the eye, which everyone wants to protect. of your eye.
Hide me in the shadow of your wings.
9Save me from the wicked people who are trying to destroy me.
Protect me from those who come to hurt me.
10They think only of themselves
and brag about what they will do.
11They have been following me,
and now they are all around me.
They watch me, waiting to throw me to the ground.
12Like hungry lions, they want to kill and eat.
Like young lions, they hide, ready to attack.
13Lord, get up#17:13 Lord, get up The people said this when they lifted the Box of the Agreement and took it into battle, showing that God was with them. See Num. 10:35-36. and face the enemy.
Make them surrender.
Use your sword and save me from these wicked people.
14Use your power, Lord,
and remove them from this life.
But as for the people you treasure,
fill them with food.
Give them plenty for their children and their grandchildren.
15I have done only what is right, so I will see your face.
And seeing you,#17:15 you Literally, “your likeness.” I will be fully satisfied.
