Psalm 16
A miktam #16:0 Unknown musical term. by David.
1Protect me, O God, because I take refuge in you.
2I said to the Lord,
“You are my Lord. Without you, I have nothing good.”
3Those who lead holy lives on earth
are the noble ones who fill me with joy.
4Those who quickly chase after other gods multiply their sorrows.
I will not pour out their sacrificial offerings of blood
or use my lips to speak their names.
5The Lord is my inheritance and my cup.
You are the one who determines my destiny.
6Your boundary lines mark out pleasant places for me.
Indeed, my inheritance is something beautiful.
7I will praise the Lord, who advises me.
My conscience warns me at night.
8I always keep the Lord in front of me.
When he is by my side, I cannot be moved.
9That is why my heart is glad and my soul rejoices.
My body rests securely
10because you do not abandon my soul to the grave
or allow your holy one to decay.
11You make the path of life known to me.
Complete joy is in your presence.
Pleasures are by your side forever.

The Lord Takes Care of His People
A miktam of David.
1Protect me, God,
because I trust in you.
2I said to the Lord, “You are my Lord.
Every good thing I have comes from you.”
3There are godly people in the world.
I enjoy them.
4But those who turn to idols will have much pain.
I will not offer blood to those idols.
I won’t even speak their names.
5No, the Lord is all I need.
He takes care of me.
6My share in life has been pleasant.
My part has been beautiful.
7I praise the Lord because he guides me.
Even at night, I feel his leading.
8I keep the Lord before me always.
Because he is close by my side
I will not be hurt.
9So I rejoice, and I am glad.
Even my body has hope.
10This is because you will not leave me in the grave.
You will not let your holy one rot.
11You will teach me God’s way to live.
Being with you will fill me with joy.
At your right hand I will find pleasure forever.
