Psalms 14
14
Psalm 14#14:0 Psalm 14 is virtually identical in wording to Psalm 53.
For the choir director; by David.
1Godless fools say in their hearts,
“There is no God.”
They are corrupt.
They do disgusting things.
There is no one who does good things.
2The Lord looks down from heaven on Adam’s descendants
to see if there is anyone who acts wisely,
if there is anyone who seeks help from God.
3Everyone has turned away.
Together they have become rotten to the core.
No one, not even one person, does good things.
4Are all those troublemakers,
those who devour my people as if they were devouring food,
so ignorant that they do not call on the Lord?
5There they are—panic-stricken
because God is with the person who is righteous.
6They put the advice of oppressed people to shame
because the Lord is their refuge.
7If only salvation for Israel would come from Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of his people,
Jacob will rejoice.
Israel will be glad.

A Portrait of Sinners
For the choir director. Davidic.
1The fool says in his heart, “God does not exist.” # Ps 10:4; 53:1
They are corrupt; they do vile deeds.
There is no one who does good.
2The Lord looks down from heaven on the human race # Ps 33:13-15
to see if there is one who is wise,
one who seeks God.
3All have turned away;
all alike have become corrupt.
There is no one who does good,
not even one. # Some Hb mss, some LXX mss add the material found in Rm 3:13-18. # Ps 12:1; 53:1-3; Mc 7:2; Rm 3:10-12
4Will evildoers never understand?
They consume My people as they consume bread; # Ps 27:2; Mc 3:3
they do not call on the Lord. # Is 64:7
5Then # Or There they will be filled with terror,
for God is with those who are # Lit with the generation of the righteous. # Ps 53:5
6You sinners frustrate the plans of the afflicted, # Ezr 4:5
but the Lord is his refuge. # Ps 9:9; 94:22
7Oh, that Israel’s deliverance would come from Zion!
When the Lord restores the fortunes of His people, # Or restores His captive people
Jacob will rejoice; Israel will be glad. # Or let Jacob rejoice; let Israel be glad. # Ps 53:6
