Psalms 125
125
Psalm 125
A song for going up to worship.
1Those who trust the Lord are like Mount Zion,
which can never be shaken.
It remains firm forever.
2 ⌞As⌟ the mountains surround Jerusalem,
so the Lord surrounds his people now and forever.
3A wicked ruler will not be allowed to govern
the land set aside for righteous people.
That is why righteous people do not use their power to do wrong.
4Do good, O Lord, to those who are good,
to those whose motives are decent.
5But when people become crooked,
the Lord will lead them away with troublemakers.
Let there be peace in Israel!

Psalms 125
125
Confidence in Yahweh’s Protection
A song of ascents.#The Hebrew Bible counts the superscription as the first verse of the psalm
1Those who trust in Yahweh
are like Mount Zion, which cannot be moved,
but abides forever.
2As mountains are round about Jerusalem,
so Yahweh is round about his people,
from now until forever.
3For the scepter of wickedness shall not rest
on the land#Literally “lot,” that is, land allotted of the righteous,
lest the righteous stretch out
their hands to do wickedness.#Hebrew “in wickedness”
4Do good, O Yahweh, to the good,
and to those upright in their hearts.
5But regarding those who turn aside to their crooked ways,
Yahweh will lead them away with the evildoers.
Peace be upon Israel.
