Mark 13

Jesus Teaches Disciples on the Mount of Olives
(Matthew 24:1–35; Luke 21:5–33)
1As Jesus was going out of the temple courtyard, one of his disciples said to him, “Teacher, look at these huge stones and these beautiful buildings!”
2Jesus said to him, “Do you see these large buildings? Not one of these stones will be left on top of another. Each one will be torn down.”
3As Jesus was sitting on the Mount of Olives facing the temple buildings, Peter, James, John, and Andrew asked him privately, 4“Tell us, when will this happen? What will be the sign when all this will come to an end?”
5Jesus answered them, “Be careful not to let anyone deceive you. 6Many will come using my name. They will say, ‘I am he,’ and they will deceive many people.
7“When you hear of wars and rumors of wars, don’t be alarmed! These things must happen, but they don’t mean that the end has come. 8Nation will fight against nation and kingdom against kingdom. There will be earthquakes and famines in various places. These are only the beginning pains ⌞of the end⌟.
9“Be on your guard! People will hand you over to the Jewish courts and whip you in their synagogues. You will stand in front of governors and kings to testify to them because of me. 10But first, the Good News must be spread to all nations. 11When they take you away to hand you over to the authorities, don’t worry ahead of time about what you will say. Instead, say whatever is given to you to say when the time comes. Indeed, you are not the one who will be speaking, but the Holy Spirit will.
12“Brother will hand over brother to death; a father will hand over his child. Children will rebel against their parents and kill them. 13Everyone will hate you because you are committed to me. But the person who endures to the end will be saved.
14“When you see the disgusting thing that will cause destruction standing where it should not (let the reader take note), those of you in Judea should flee to the mountains. 15Those who are on the roof should not come down to get anything out of their houses. 16Those who are in the field should not turn back to get their coats.
17“How horrible it will be for the women who are pregnant or who are nursing babies in those days. 18Pray that it will not be in winter. 19It will be a time of misery that has not happened from the beginning of God’s creation until now, and will certainly never happen again. 20If the Lord does not reduce that time, no one will be saved. But those days will be reduced because of those whom God has chosen.
21“At that time don’t believe anyone who tells you, ‘Here is the Messiah!’ or ‘There he is!’ 22False messiahs and false prophets will appear. They will work miraculous signs and do wonderful things to deceive, if possible, those whom God has chosen. 23Be on your guard! I have told you everything before it happens.
24“Now, after the misery of those days, the sun will turn dark, the moon will not give light, 25the stars will fall from the sky, and the powers of the universe will be shaken.
26“Then people will see the Son of Man coming in clouds with great power and glory. 27He will send out his angels, and from every direction under the sky, they will gather those whom God has chosen.
28“Learn from the story of the fig tree. When its branch becomes tender and it sprouts leaves, you know summer is near. 29In the same way, when you see these things happen, you know that he is near, at the door.
30“I can guarantee this truth: This generation will not disappear until all these things take place. 31The earth and the heavens will disappear, but my words will never disappear.
No One Knows When the Earth and the Heavens Will Disappear
32“No one knows when that day or hour will come. Even the angels in heaven and the Son don’t know. Only the Father knows. 33Be careful! Watch! You don’t know the exact time. 34It is like a man who went on a trip. As he left home, he put his servants in charge. He assigned work to each one and ordered the guard to be alert. 35Therefore, be alert, because you don’t know when the owner of the house will return. It could be in the evening or at midnight or at dawn or in the morning. 36Make sure he doesn’t come suddenly and find you asleep. 37I’m telling everyone what I’m telling you: ‘Be alert!’ ”

Marqos (Mark) 13

1And as He went out of the Set-apart Place, one of His taught ones said to Him, “Teacher, see what stones! And what buildings!”
2And יהושע answering, said to him, “Do you see these great buildings? Not one stone shall be left upon another at all, which shall not be thrown down.”#See Mat. 24
3And as He sat on the Mount of Olives opposite the Set-apart Place, Kĕpha, and Ya‛aqoḇ, and Yoḥanan, and Andri asked Him separately,
4Say to us, when shall these events be? And what shall be the sign when all this is going to be accomplished?
5And יהושע began to say to them, “Take heed that no one leads you astray,
6for many shall come in My Name, saying, ‘I am He,’ and they shall lead many astray.
7“And when you hear of fightings and reports of fightings, do not be troubled – it has to take place, but the end is not yet.
8“For nation shall rise against nation, and reign against reign. And there shall be earthquakes in various places, and there shall be scarcities of food, and disturbances. These are the beginnings of birth-pains.
9“But take heed to yourselves, for they shall deliver you up to councils and to congregations. You shall be beaten, and you shall be brought before rulers and sovereigns for My sake, for a witness to them.
10“And the Good News has to be proclaimed first to all the nations.
11“And when they lead you away and deliver you up, do not worry beforehand what you are to say. But whatever is given you in that hour, speak that, for it is not you who are speaking, but the Set-apart Spirit.
12“And brother shall deliver up brother to death, and a father his child. And children shall rise up against parents and shall put them to death.
13And you shall be hated by all because of My Name. But he who shall have endured to the end, he shall be saved.#See Mat. 10:22; Mat. 24:13
14And when you see the ‘abomination that lays waste,’#See Explanatory Notes "Abomination that lays waste" spoken of by Dani’ĕl the prophet, set up where it should not be” – he who reads, let him understand – “then let those who are in Yehuḏah flee to the mountains.
15“And he who is on the house-top, let him not go down into the house, nor come in to take whatever out of his house.
16“And he who is in the field, let him not go back to get his cloak.
17“And woe to those who are pregnant and to those nursing children in those days!
18“And pray that your flight does not take place in winter.
19“For in those days there shall be distress, such as has not been from the beginning of creation which Elohim created until this time, nor ever shall be.
20“And if the Master had not shortened those days, no flesh would have been saved; but because of the chosen ones, whom He chose, He shortened the days.
21“And if anyone then says to you, ‘Look, here is the Messiah!’ or, ‘Look, there!’ do not believe it.
22“For false messiahs and false prophets shall rise and show signs and wonders to lead astray, if possible, even the chosen ones.
23“And you, take heed. See, I have forewarned you of it all.
24But in those days, after that distress, the sun shall be darkened, and the moon shall not give its light,
25and the stars of heaven shall fall,# Isa. 13:10 and the powers in the heavens shall be shaken.# Isa. 34:4#See also Eze. 32:7; Joel 2:10; Joel 2:31; Joel 3:15; Hag. 2:6; Hag. 2:21
26“And then they shall see the Son of Aḏam coming in the clouds# Dan. 7:13 with much power and esteem.
27And then He shall send His messengers, and assemble His chosen ones from the four winds, from the farthest part of earth to the farthest part of heaven.# Deu. 30:4; Zech. 2:6
28“And learn this parable from the fig tree: When its branch has already become tender, and puts forth leaves, you know that the summer is near.
29“So you also, when you see these taking place, know that it is near, at the door.
30“Truly, I say to you, this generation shall by no means pass away till all this takes place.
31“The heaven and the earth shall pass away, but My words shall by no means pass away.
32“But concerning that day and the hour no one knows, not even the messengers in heaven, nor the Son, but only the Father.
33Take heed, watch and pray, for you do not know when the time is - ”
34as a man going abroad, having left his house and given authority to his servants, and to each his work, and commanded the doorkeeper to watch.
35“Watch therefore, for you do not know when the master of the house is coming – in the evening or at midnight, or at the crowing of the cock, or in the morning,
36lest, coming suddenly, he should find you sleeping.
37“And what I say to you, I say to all: Watch!”
