Deuteronomy 10
10
1At that time the Lord said to me, “Cut two ⌞more⌟ stone tablets like the first ones, and come up to me on the mountain. Also make an ark out of wood. 2I will write on the tablets the same words that were on the first tablets, which you smashed. Then you will put them in the ark.”
3I made an ark out of acacia wood. I cut two ⌞more⌟ stone tablets like the first ones. I carried the two tablets up the mountain. 4The Lord wrote on these tablets the same words as before, the ten commandments. He had spoken these words to you from the fire on the mountain on the day of the assembly. Then the Lord gave them to me. 5I came back down the mountain and put the tablets in the ark I had made. They are still there, where the Lord commanded me to put them.
6The Israelites moved from the wells of the Jaakanites to Moserah. Aaron died there and was buried, and his son Eleazar succeeded him as priest. 7They moved from there to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with rivers that don’t dry up. 8At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi to carry the ark of the Lord’s promise, to stand in the Lord’s presence when they serve him as priests, and to praise his name, as they still do today. 9This is why the tribe of Levi has no land of their own as the other tribes have. The Lord your God is their only possession, as he promised them.
10I stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights as I did the first time. Once again the Lord listened to me and agreed not to destroy you. 11The Lord said to me, “Lead the people on their journey. They will enter and take possession of the land I will give them, as I swore to their ancestors.”
Israel Encouraged to Follow God’s Guidance
12Israel, what does the Lord your God want you to do? He wants you to fear him, follow all his directions, love him, and worship him with all your heart and with all your soul. 13The Lord wants you to obey his commands and laws that I’m giving you today for your own good. 14Remember that the sky, the highest heaven, the earth and everything it contains belong to the Lord your God. 15The Lord set his heart on your ancestors and loved them. Because of this, today he chooses you, their descendants, out of all the people of the world.
16So circumcise your uncircumcised hearts, and don’t be impossible to deal with any longer. 17The Lord your God is God of gods and Lord of lords, the great, powerful, and awe-inspiring God. He never plays favorites and never takes a bribe. 18He makes sure orphans and widows receive justice. He loves foreigners and gives them food and clothes. 19So you should love foreigners, because you were foreigners living in Egypt. 20Fear the Lord your God, worship him, be loyal to him, and take your oaths in his name. 21He is your glory. He is your God, who did for you these spectacular and awe-inspiring deeds you saw with your own eyes. 22When your ancestors went to Egypt, there were 70 of them. Now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars in the sky.

The Covenant Renewed
1“The Lord said to me at that time, ‘Cut two stone tablets like the first ones and come to Me on the mountain and make a wooden ark. 2I will write on the tablets the words that were on the first tablets you broke, and you are to place them in the ark.’ 3So I made an ark of acacia wood, # Ex 25:10; 37:1 cut two stone tablets like the first ones, and climbed the mountain with the two tablets in my hand. 4Then on the day of the assembly, the Lord wrote on the tablets what had been written previously, the Ten Commandments that He had spoken to you on the mountain from the fire. The Lord gave them to me, 5and I went back down the mountain and placed the tablets in the ark I had made. And they have remained there, as the Lord commanded me.” # Ex 25:16; 1Kg 8:9; Heb 9:4
6The Israelites traveled from Beeroth Bene-jaakan # Or from the wells of Bene-jaakan, or from the wells of the Jaakanites to Moserah. Aaron died and was buried there, and Eleazar his son became priest in his place. # Nm 20:22-29 7They traveled from there to Gudgodah, and from Gudgodah to Jotbathah, a land with streams of water. # Nm 33:31-33
8“At that time the Lord set apart the tribe of Levi # Ex 27:21-28:1; 32:26-29; Nm 3:45; 18:19; 25:12-13; Dt 33:8-11 to carry the ark of the Lord’s covenant, to stand before Yahweh to serve Him, and to pronounce blessings in His name, as it is today. 9For this reason, Levi does not have a portion or inheritance like his brothers; the Lord is his inheritance, as the Lord your God told him. # Lv 25:32-34; Nm 18:20; 26:62; Dt 18:1-2; Jos 13:14,33; Ezk 44:28-30
10“I stayed on the mountain 40 days and 40 nights like the first time. The Lord also listened to me on this occasion; # Dt 9:19 He agreed not to annihilate you. 11Then the Lord said to me, ‘Get up. Continue your journey ahead of the people, so that they may enter and possess the land I swore to give their fathers.’ # Dt 1:35
What God Requires
12“And now, Israel, what does the Lord your God ask of you except to fear # Dt 14:23 the Lord your God by walking in all His ways, to love Him, and to worship the Lord your God with all your heart and all your soul? # Dt 6:5; 11:13; 13:3; 30:6; Jos 22:5; Mt 22:37 13Keep the Lord’s commands and statutes I am giving you today, for your own good. # Ex 15:26; Dt 4:40; 11:1; 26:17; 28:45; 30:16; 1Kg 2:3; 3:14; 6:12; 8:58,61; 9:6-7; 11:38; 2Kg 17:13; 23:3 14The heavens, indeed the highest heavens, belong to the Lord your God, as does the earth and everything in it. # Ps 24:1 15Yet the Lord was devoted to your fathers and loved them. # Dt 4:37 He chose their descendants after them — He chose you out of all the peoples, as it is today. # Dt 7:7; Ezk 20:5 16Therefore, circumcise your hearts # Dt 30:6; Jr 4:4; Rm 2:29 and don’t be stiff-necked any longer. 17For the Lord your God is the God of gods # Jos 22:22; Ps 50:1; 136:2; Dn 2:47; 11:36 and Lord of lords, # Ps 136:3; 1Tm 6:15; Rv 17:14; 19:6 the great, mighty, and awesome God, showing no partiality and taking no bribe. # 2Ch 19:7; Jb 34:19; Mt 22:16 18He executes justice for the fatherless and the widow, and loves the foreigner, giving him food and clothing. # Dt 27:19; Jr 22:3; Mal 3:5 19You also must love the foreigner, since you were foreigners in the land of Egypt. # Lv 19:34 20You are to fear Yahweh your God and worship Him. Remain faithful # Lit Hold on to Him and take oaths in His name. # Dt 6:13; 13:4 21He is your praise and He is your God, who has done for you these great and awesome works your eyes have seen. 22Your fathers went down to Egypt, 70 people in all, # Gn 46:27; Ex 1:5 and now the Lord your God has made you as numerous as the stars of the sky. # Gn 15:5; 22:17; 26:4
