Psalm 94

The Lord Will Not Forsake His People
1O Lord, God of #Deut. 32:35, 41, 43; Isa. 35:4; Jer. 51:56; Nah. 1:2; Rom. 12:19 vengeance,
O God of vengeance, #See Ps. 50:2shine forth!
2 # See Ps. 7:6 Rise up, O #See Ps. 58:11 judge of the earth;
repay to the #Luke 1:51proud what they deserve!
3O Lord, #Rev. 6:10; See Ps. 74:10 how long shall the wicked,
how long shall #[Job 20:5]the wicked exult?
4They pour out their #Ps. 31:18; 1 Sam. 2:3; [Jude 15] arrogant words;
all #Ps. 92:7, 9; 125:5the evildoers boast.
5They #[Prov. 22:22; Isa. 3:15]crush your people, O Lord,
and afflict your heritage.
6They kill #[Isa. 10:2]the widow and the sojourner,
and murder #[Isa. 10:2]the fatherless;
7 # See Job 22:13 and they say, “The Lord does not see;
the God of Jacob does not perceive.”
8 # See Ps. 49:10 Understand, O dullest of the people!
Fools, when will you be wise?
9 # [Ex. 4:11; Prov. 20:12] He who planted the ear, does he not hear?
He who formed the eye, does he not see?
10He who #[Job 12:23] disciplines the nations, does he not rebuke?
He who #See Job 35:11teaches man knowledge—

that they are #[Ps. 30:5, 11]but a breath.#94:11 Septuagint they are futile

Prov. 3:11, 12; Heb. 12:5, 6; See Job 5:17 Blessed is the man whom you #Deut. 8:5; 1 Cor. 11:32discipline, O Lord,
and whom you teach out of your law,
13to give him #Job 34:29 rest from #Ps. 49:5 days of trouble,
until #Ps. 55:23a pit is dug for the wicked.
14 #
1 Sam. 12:22; Rom. 11:2 For the Lord will not forsake his #Deut. 32:9people;
he will not abandon his #Deut. 32:9heritage;
15for #[Isa. 42:3] justice will return to the righteous,
and all the upright in heart will #1 Sam. 12:14; 1 Kgs. 14:8follow it.
16 # See Ps. 12:5 Who rises up for me against the wicked?
Who stands up for me against evildoers?
17 #
Ps. 124:1, 2 If the Lord had not been my help,
my soul would soon have lived in the land of #See Ps. 31:17silence.
18When I thought, #Ps. 38:16; [Ps. 73:2] “My foot slips,”
your steadfast love, O Lord, #[Ps. 20:2]held me up.
19When the cares of my heart are many,
your consolations cheer my soul.
20Can #[Amos 6:3] wicked rulers be allied with you,
those who frame#94:20 Or fashion injustice by #Ps. 50:16; 58:2; Isa. 10:1statute?
21They #Matt. 27:1 band together against the life of the righteous
and condemn #Matt. 27:4the innocent to death.#94:21 Hebrew condemn innocent blood
22But the Lord has become my #See Ps. 9:9 stronghold,
and my God #See Ps. 18:2 the rock of my #See Ps. 14:6refuge.
23He will bring back on them #See Ps. 7:16; 34:21; [Prov. 2:22] their iniquity
and #[Ps. 92:9]wipe them out for their wickedness;
the Lord our God will wipe them out.

Psalm 94
1O Lord, God of vengeance,
O God of vengeance, appear!
2Arise, O Judge of the earth.
Give arrogant people what they deserve.
3How long, O Lord, will wicked people triumph?
How long?
4They ramble.
They speak arrogantly.
All troublemakers brag about themselves.
5They crush your people, O Lord.
They make those who belong to you suffer.
6They kill widows and foreigners, and they murder orphans.
7They say, “The Lord doesn’t see it.
The God of Jacob doesn’t even pay attention to it.”
8Pay attention, you stupid people!
When will you become wise, you fools?
9God created ears.
Do you think he can’t hear?
He formed eyes.
Do you think he can’t see?
10He disciplines nations.
Do you think he can’t punish?
He teaches people.
Do you think he doesn’t know anything?
11The Lord knows that people’s thoughts are pointless.
12O Lord, blessed is the person
whom you discipline and instruct from your teachings.
13You give him peace and quiet from times of trouble
while a pit is dug to trap wicked people.
14The Lord will never desert his people
or abandon those who belong to him.
15The decisions of judges will again become fair,
and everyone whose motives are decent will pursue justice.
16Who will stand up for me against evildoers?
Who will stand by my side against troublemakers?
17If the Lord had not come to help me,
my soul would have quickly fallen silent ⌞in death⌟.
18When I said, “My feet are slipping,”
your mercy, O Lord, continued to hold me up.
19When I worried about many things,
your assuring words soothed my soul.
20Are wicked rulers who use the law to do unlawful things
able to be your partners?
21They join forces to take the lives of righteous people.
They condemn innocent people to death.
22The Lord has become my stronghold.
My God has become my rock of refuge.
23He has turned their own wickedness against them.
He will destroy them because of their sins.
The Lord our God will destroy them.
