Psalm 80
80
Restore Us, O God
To the choirmaster: according to #Ps. 60, title Lilies. A Testimony. Of #Ps. 50, titleAsaph, a Psalm.
1Give ear, O Shepherd of Israel,
you who lead #Ps. 78:67; 81:5 Joseph like #[Ps. 95:7]; See Ps. 77:20 a flock.
You who are #Ps. 99:1; Ex. 25:22; 1 Sam. 4:4; 2 Sam. 6:2 enthroned upon the cherubim, #See Ps. 50:2shine forth.
2Before #See Num. 2:18-24 Ephraim and Benjamin and Manasseh,
# See Ps. 35:23 stir up your might
and #[Ps. 118:14, 21]come to save us!
3 # ver. 19; Ps. 60:1; 85:4; Lam. 5:21 Restore us,#80:3 Or Turn us again; also verses 7, 19 O God;
#
Num. 6:25; See Ps. 4:6 let your face shine, that we may be saved!
4O #See Ps. 59:5 Lord God of hosts,
# [Ps. 74:10; 79:5] how long will you be angry with your people’s prayers?
5You have fed them with #Ps. 42:3; 102:9; [1 Kgs. 22:27; Isa. 30:20]the bread of tears
and given them tears to drink in full measure.
6 # See Ps. 44:13 You make us an object of contention for our #See Ps. 44:13neighbors,
and our enemies laugh among themselves.
7 # [See ver. 3 above] Restore us, O God of hosts;
let your face shine, that we may be saved!
8You brought #Isa. 5:1; 27:2; Jer. 2:21; 12:10; Ezek. 17:6; Matt. 21:33; Mark 12:1; Luke 20:9 a vine out of Egypt;
you #See Ps. 44:2drove out the nations and planted it.
9You #[Josh. 24:12]cleared the ground for it;
it took deep root and filled the land.
10The mountains were covered with its shade,
the mighty cedars with its branches.
11It sent out its branches to #See Ps. 72:8the sea
and its shoots to #See Ps. 72:8the River.#80:11 That is, the Euphrates
12Why then have you #Ps. 89:40; Isa. 5:5broken down its walls,
so that all who pass along the way pluck its fruit?
13 # [Jer. 5:6] The boar from the forest ravages it,
and all that move in the field feed on it.
14Turn again, O God of hosts!
# [Isa. 63:15] Look down from heaven, and see;
have regard for this vine,
15the stock that your right hand planted,
and for the son whom you made strong for yourself.
16They have #Isa. 33:12 burned it with fire; they have #Isa. 33:12 cut it down;
may they perish at #Ps. 76:6; [Ps. 39:11]the rebuke of your face!
17But #Ps. 89:21let your hand be on the man of your right hand,
the son of man whom you have made strong for yourself!
18Then we shall not turn back from you;
# See Ps. 71:20 give us life, and we will call upon your name!
19 # ver. 3, 7 Restore us, O Lord God of hosts!
Let your face shine, that we may be saved!

Psalm 80
For the music leader. According to “Lotus Blossoms.” A testimony of Asaph. A psalm.
1Shepherd of Israel, listen!
You, the one who leads Joseph as if he were a sheep.
You, who are enthroned upon the winged heavenly creatures.
Show yourself 2before Ephraim, Benjamin, and Manasseh!
Wake up your power!
Come to save us!
3Restore us, God!
Make your face shine so that we can be saved!
4 LORD God of heavenly forces,
how long will you fume against your people’s prayer?
5You’ve fed them bread made of tears;
you’ve given them tears to drink three times over!
6You’ve put us at odds with our neighbors;
our enemies make fun of us.
7Restore us, God of heavenly forces!
Make your face shine so that we can be saved!
8You brought a vine out of Egypt.
You drove out the nations and planted it.
9You cleared the ground for it;
then it planted its roots deep, filling the land.
10The mountains were covered by its shade;
the mighty cedars were covered by its branches.
11It sent its branches all the way to the sea;
its shoots went all the way to the Euphrates River.#80.11 Or the Great River
12So why have you now torn down its walls
so that all who come along can pluck its fruit,
13so that any boar from the forest can tear it up,
so that the bugs can feed on it?
14Please come back, God of heavenly forces!
Look down from heaven and perceive it!
Attend to this vine,
15this root that you planted with your strong hand,
this son whom you secured as your very own.
16It is burned with fire. It is chopped down.
They die at the rebuke coming from you.
17Let your hand be with the one on your right side—
with the one whom you secured as your own—
18then we will not turn away from you!
Revive us so that we can call on your name.
19Restore us, LORD God of heavenly forces!
Make your face shine so that we can be saved!
