Who Can Stand Before You?
To the choirmaster: with #Ps. 4, title stringed instruments. A Psalm of #See Ps. 50, titleAsaph. A Song.
1In Judah God is #Ps. 48:3known;
his name is great in Israel.
2His #Ps. 27:5; Lam. 2:6 abode has been established in #Gen. 14:18 Salem,
his #Ps. 9:11; 74:2dwelling place in Zion.
3There he #Ps. 46:9; [Ezek. 39:9]broke the flashing arrows,
the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah
4Glorious are you, more majestic
# [Isa. 14:25; Ezek. 39:4] than the mountains full of #Nah. 2:13prey.
5 #
Isa. 46:12 The stouthearted were stripped of their spoil;
#
Ps. 13:3; 2 Kgs. 19:35; Jer. 51:39; Nah. 3:18 they sank into sleep;
all the men of war
were unable to use their hands.
6At your rebuke, O God of Jacob,
both #Ex. 15:1, 21rider and horse lay stunned.
7 #
Ps. 47:2 But you, you are to be feared!
Who can #Ps. 130:3stand before you
when once your anger is roused?
8From the heavens you uttered judgment;
#
2 Chr. 20:29, 30; [Hab. 2:20] the earth feared and was still,
9when God #[Ps. 9:7, 8]arose to establish judgment,
to save all the humble of the earth. Selah
10Surely #[Ex. 9:16]the wrath of man shall praise you;
the remnant#76:10 Or extremity of wrath you will put on like a belt.
11 # See Ps. 50:14 Make your vows to the Lord your God and perform them;
let all around him #See Ps. 68:29 bring gifts
to him who #Ps. 89:7; Gen. 31:42, 53; Isa. 8:13is to be feared,
12who #[Isa. 18:5] cuts off the spirit of princes,

Psalm 76
76
To the Chief Musician; on stringed instruments. A Psalm of Asaph. A song.
1 IN JUDAH God is known and renowned; His name is highly praised and is great in Israel.
2 In [Jeru]Salem also is His tabernacle, and His dwelling place is in Zion.
3 There He broke the bow's flashing arrows, the shield, the sword, and the weapons of war. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
4 Glorious and excellent are You from the mountains of prey [splendid and majestic, more than the everlasting mountains].
5 The stouthearted are stripped of their spoil, they have slept the sleep [of death]; and none of the men of might could raise their hands.
6 At Your rebuke, O God of Jacob, both chariot [rider] and horse are cast into a dead sleep [of death]. [Exod. 15:1, 21; Nah. 2:13; Zech. 12:4.]
7 You, even You, are to be feared [with awe and reverence]! Who may stand in Your presence when once Your anger is roused?
8 You caused sentence to be heard from heaven; the earth feared and was still–
9 When God arose to [establish] judgment, to save all the meek and oppressed of the earth. Selah [pause, and calmly think of that]!
10 Surely the wrath of man shall praise You; the remainder of wrath shall You restrain and gird and arm Yourself with it.
11 Vow and pay to the Lord your God; let all who are round about Him bring presents to Him Who ought to be [reverently] feared.
12 He will cut off the spirit [of pride and fury] of princes; He is terrible to the [ungodly] kings of the earth.
