How Awesome Are Your Deeds
To the choirmaster. A Song. A Psalm.
1 #
Ps. 81:1; 95:1; 98:4; 100:1 Shout for joy to God, all the earth;
2sing the glory of his name;
# [Josh. 7:19; Isa. 42:12] give to him glorious praise!
3Say to God, #See Ps. 65:5 “How awesome are your deeds!
So great is your power that your enemies #See Ps. 18:44come cringing to you.
4 # See Ps. 22:27 All the earth worships you
and sings praises to you;
they sing praises to your name.” Selah
5 # ver. 16; Ps. 46:8 Come and see what God has done:
# [See ver. 3 above] he is awesome in his deeds toward the children of man.
6He #[Ex. 14:21] turned the sea into dry land;
they #Ps. 74:15; See Josh. 3:14-17passed through the river on foot.
There did we rejoice in him,
7who rules by his might forever,
whose #See Ps. 11:4eyes keep watch on the nations—
let not the rebellious exalt themselves. Selah
8Bless our God, O peoples;
let the sound of his praise be heard,
9who has kept our soul among the living
and #See Ps. 121:3has not let our feet slip.
10For you, O God, have #See Job 23:10tested us;
you have tried us as silver is tried.
11You brought us into #Lam. 1:13; Ezek. 12:13the net;
you laid a crushing burden on our backs;
12you let men #Isa. 51:23 ride over our heads;
we went through fire and through #Isa. 43:2water;
yet you have brought us out to a place of abundance.
13I will come into your house with burnt offerings;
I will #See Ps. 50:14perform my vows to you,
14that which my lips uttered
and my mouth promised #See Ps. 18:6when I was in trouble.
15I will offer to you burnt offerings of fattened animals,
with the smoke of the sacrifice of rams;
I will make an offering of bulls and goats. Selah
16 # ver. 5; Ps. 34:11 Come and hear, all you who fear God,
and I will tell what he has done for my soul.
17I cried to him with my mouth,
and high praise was on#66:17 Hebrew under my tongue.#66:17 Or and he was exalted with my tongue
18If I had #Job 36:21 cherished iniquity in my heart,
# [Prov. 28:9; Isa. 59:2; John 9:31; James 4:3; See Job 27:9] the Lord would not have listened.
19But truly #Ps. 116:1, 2God has listened;
he has attended to the voice of my prayer.
20Blessed be God,
because he has not rejected my prayer
or removed his steadfast love from me!

Psalms 66
66
For the music director. A song. A psalm.
1Everyone on earth, shout for joy to God!
2Sing about his marvelous reputation; praise him for his goodness!
3Tell God, “What you do is awesome! Your enemies are forced to bow before you because of your power.
4Everyone on earth worships you, singing your praises—singing praises because of who you are.”#66:4. Literally, “your name.” Selah.
5Come and see what God has done! What he does for people is truly awesome!
6He turned the Red Sea into dry land, and his people walked across through the waters. We celebrated there because of what he did.
7He rules forever through his power. He keeps an eye on the nations, watching to make sure no rebels rise up in opposition. Selah.
8Let all people everywhere bless our God, and loudly sing praises to him.
9He has kept us alive, and he has not let us fall.
10God, you have tested us, refining us like silver.
11You caught us in your net; you placed heavy burdens on our backs.
12You let people ride roughshod over us;#66:12. The image is of an enemy army overwhelming them. we suffered through fire and flooding, but you brought us to a safe place.
13I will come to your Temple with burnt offerings; I will fulfill my promises to you,
14the promises I made when I was in trouble.
15I will sacrifice burnt offerings to you of fattened livestock—the smoke of the sacrifice of rams, offerings of bulls and goats. Selah.
16Come and listen, everyone who honors God, and I will tell you all he has done for me.
17I called out to him, and praised him with my voice.
18If I had focused my mind on evil,#66:18. Literally, “If I had seen evil in my heart.” It was believed that it was in the heart that thinking happened. the Lord would not have listened to me.
19But God did hear me! He listened to what I had to say in my prayer!
20Praise God, who did not disregard my prayer or take his trustworthy love from me.
