Psalm 63

My Soul Thirsts for You
A Psalm of David, #[2 Sam. 16:14; 17:2, 29]when he was in the wilderness of Judah.
1O God, you are my God; #Ps. 78:34; Isa. 26:9 earnestly I seek you;
# See Ps. 84:2 my soul thirsts for you;
my flesh faints for you,
as in #Ps. 143:6; Isa. 32:2a dry and weary land where there is no water.
2So I have looked upon you in the sanctuary,
beholding #Ps. 78:61; [Ps. 27:4]your power and glory.
3Because your #[Ps. 69:16]steadfast love is better than life,
my lips will praise you.
4So I will bless you #Ps. 104:33; 146:2 as long as I live;
in your #Ps. 20:1, 5 name I will #See Ps. 28:2lift up my hands.
5My soul will be #See Ps. 36:8satisfied as with fat and rich food,
and my mouth will praise you with joyful lips,
6when I remember you #See Ps. 42:8upon my bed,
and meditate on you in #See Ps. 42:8the watches of the night;
7for you have been my help,
and in #See Ps. 17:8the shadow of your wings I will sing for joy.
8My soul #[Num. 14:24] clings to you;
your right hand #See Ps. 41:12upholds me.
9But those who seek to destroy my life
#
Ps. 9:17; 55:15 shall go down into #Ezek. 26:20; 31:14; Eph. 4:9the depths of the earth;
10they shall be given over to the power of the sword;
they shall be a portion for jackals.
11But #Ps. 61:6 the king shall rejoice in God;
all who #Deut. 6:13; Isa. 45:23; 65:16 swear by him shall exult,
#
Ps. 107:42; Job 5:16; [Rom. 3:19] for the mouths of #[Ps. 38:12; 41:5-8]liars will be stopped.

Psalm 63
A psalm of David, when he was in the Judean desert.
1God! My God! It’s you—
I search for you!
My whole being#63.1 Or my soul; also in 63:5, 8 thirsts for you!
My body desires you
in a dry and tired land,
no water anywhere.
2Yes, I’ve seen you in the sanctuary;
I’ve seen your power and glory.
3My lips praise you
because your faithful love
is better than life itself!
4So I will bless you as long as I’m alive;
I will lift up my hands in your name.
5I’m fully satisfied—
as with a rich dinner.
My mouth speaks praise with joy on my lips—
6whenever I ponder you on my bed,
whenever I meditate on you
in the middle of the night—
7because you’ve been a help to me and I shout for joy in the protection of your wings.
8My whole being clings to you;
your strong hand upholds me.
9But what about those people who want to destroy me?
Let them go into the bowels of the earth!
10Let their blood flow by the sword!
Let them be food for wild jackals!
11But the king should rejoice in God;
everyone who swears by God should give praise
when the mouths of liars are shut for good.
