Deliver Me from My Enemies

Ps. 143:9; [Ps. 18:48] Deliver me from my enemies, O my God;
# See Ps. 20:1 protect me from those who #See Ps. 17:7rise up against me;
2deliver me from #Ps. 94:4 those who work evil,
and save me from #Ps. 5:6bloodthirsty men.
3For behold, they #Ps. 10:9 lie in wait for my life;
fierce men #See Ps. 56:6 stir up strife against me.

4for no fault of mine, they run and make ready.

Rouse yourself to punish all the nations;
spare none of those who treacherously plot evil. Selah
6Each evening they #[Ps. 22:16]come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
7There they are, #Prov. 15:2, 28; [Ps. 94:4] bellowing with their mouths
with #See Ps. 57:4 swords in their lips—
for #See Job 22:13“Who,” they think,#59:7 Hebrew lacks they think “will hear us?”
8But you, O Lord, #See Ps. 2:4laugh at them;
you hold all the nations in derision.
9O my Strength, I will watch for you,
for you, O God, are #ver. 16, 17; See Ps. 9:9my fortress.
10 # ver. 17 My God in his steadfast love#59:10 Or The God who shows me steadfast love #Ps. 21:3 will meet me;
God will let me #See Ps. 54:7look in triumph on my enemies.
11Kill them not, lest my people forget;
make them totter#59:11 Or wander by your power and #See Ps. 55:23 bring them down,
O Lord, our #See Ps. 3:3shield!
12For #See Prov. 12:13the sin of their mouths, the words of their lips,
let them be trapped in their pride.
For the cursing and lies that they utter,
13 # [Ps. 7:9] consume them in wrath;
consume them till they are no more,
that they may #Ps. 83:18 know that God rules over Jacob
to #Ps. 22:27the ends of the earth. Selah
14 # [Ps. 22:16] Each evening they come back,
howling like dogs
and prowling about the city.
15They #Ps. 109:10; Job 15:23wander about for food
and growl if they do not get their fill.
16But I will sing of your strength;
I will sing aloud of your steadfast love in the morning.
For you have been to me #ver. 9 a fortress
and #2 Sam. 22:3 a refuge in #Ps. 18:6the day of my distress.
17O my Strength, I will sing praises to you,
for you, O God, #[See ver. 16 above] are my fortress,
# ver. 10 the God who shows me steadfast love.

(For the one directing. Set to Do Not Destroy. Mikhtam Dovid. When Sha'ul sent and they watched [Dovid's] bais to kill him)
1 Save me from mine enemies, O Elohai; protect me from them that rise up against me.
2 Deliver me from the po'alei aven (workers of iniquity), and save me from anshei damim (bloody men).
3 For, hinei, they lie in wait for my nefesh; the fierce stir up strife against me; not for my peysha, nor for my chattat, Hashem.
4 They run and prepare themselves without my avon (wrong, fault); awake to help me, and see.
5 Thou therefore, Hashem Elohim Tzva'os, Elohei Yisroel, rouse Thyself to visit#59:5 in punishment kol HaGoyim; be not merciful to any bogedei aven (wicked boged).#59:5 traitor Selah
6 They return at erev; they growl like a kelev (dog), and prowl around the Ir.
7 Hinei, they belch out with their mouth; charavot (swords) are in their sfatot (lips); for who, say they, doth hear?
8 But Thou, Hashem, shalt laugh at them; Thou shalt have all the Goyim in derision.
9 O my Strength, I will be shomer to watch for Thee; for Elohim is my stronghold.
10 The G-d of my chesed shall come to meet me; Elohim shall let me see [the end] of my shorer (watchers).#59:10 i.e., slandering foes insidiously fixated on me and lying in wait
11 Slay them not, lest my people forget; scatter them by Thy power; and bring them down, Adonoi mogineinu (our Shield).
12 For the chattat of their mouth and the davar of their sfatayim let them even be caught in their ga'on (pride); and for the cursing and lying which they speak.
13 Consume them in chemah (wrath), consume them, till they are no more; and let them know that Elohim ruleth in Ya'akov unto the ends of ha'aretz. Selah
14 And at erev let them return; and let them growl like a kelev, and prowl around the Ir.
15 Let them wander up and down for okhel (food), and howl if they be not satisfied.
16 But I will sing of Thy oz; yes, I will sing aloud of Thy chesed in the boker; for Thou hast been my stronghold and refuge in the day of my tzoros.
17 Unto Thee, O my Strength, will I sing; for Elohim is my strongold, and the Elohim of my chesed.
